FC Edmonton escaped with a 1-1 draw in the first game of the season against Winnipeg’s Valour FC after a fantastic last gasp bicycle kick goal by Tobias Warschewski in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
And FC Edmonton’s head coach had nothing but praise for his German forward following the game.
“Tobias is a special player and he’s a player that is capable of special things and obviously that was a world class goal,” said FC Edmonton coach Alan Koch after.

It’s easy to naively show up at the first game of a new season thinking that you’ll be leaving with clear signals of which teams will finish at which end of the table. Not so Saturday at the TD Place in Ottawa, where Atlético Ottawa beat Cavalry FC 1-0 in their Canadian Premier League season opener with a late penalty from Brian Wright.
True, last season’s bottom side beating playoff semi-finalists is a green sprout of hope for the home team, but in truth it was a game in which neither side carved out any clear-cut opportunities and neither side could claim to have controlled the game to any s ..read more

HFX Wanderers opened the 2022 Canadian Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over York United in Ontario Thursday night.
Brazilian João Morelli scored from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute to earn the visitors the three points.
“I thought we played a very good first half,” said HFX Wanderers head coach Stephen Hart after the match. “In the second half, we kind of lost our way for 15 minutes in the game. And then we started to get ourselves back into the game.
“And of course they started chasing the game. The aerial bombardment, they were raining in balls on us. But I thought we handled i ..read more

A Canadian win or draw in Central America would have been enough to book a ticket Qatar.
But John Herdman’s squad will now wait until Sunday’s match against Jamaica for another chance to earn its first World Cup berth since 1986.

Canada heads into Thursday’s World Cup qualifier in Costa Rica on the verge of reaching Qatar 2022.
A win will send Canada to its first World Cup since Mexico 1986. A draw would likely be enough. And Canada could even lose Thursday and still progress, depending on results elsewhere.
“I don’t think anyone wants it to end,” admitted head coach John Herdman, speaking to the media Sunday. “We’ve really enjoyed the experience (of the qualifying campaign).
“When you look back, there’s been some amazing moments that I think have shaped the team. As a staff, as coach, as a player group, we’ve grown. W ..read more
