Ah Chrimbo. ALL THAT FOOD. ALL THAT BOOZE. ALL THOSE NAPS. Yes, the 25th is a special day for seeing family, friends and loved ones. It’s a celebration of non-stop eating. Cheese, crisps, Matchmakers, Cake, more crisps, roasties, chocolate, meat, trifle, pigs in blankets and, well, you get the gist. However, once you have consumed your 6th left over chicken sandwich, you desperately want to go outside and take a walk, get some fresh air, stretch your legs, give the dog a run around, and you know, brush off the excesses. Or at least brush them off before going home, sticking a movie on and eati ..read more

Right, it seems a lot of you are a bit like me. Whilst I, hand on heart, am completely overjoyed at seeing hospitality venues reopen in Bristol and people flocking to them – I also haven’t really planned that far ahead. Like at all. Which has made it almost impossible to nip to the pub after work on a Friday, or stop off somewhere for lunch or dinner because I fancy it. Venues are getting booked up for months in advance (again, I’m happy with that, and the organised folk too) but what about the rest of us who maybe haven’t been that great in pre-planning? Don’t fear – there are a lot of venues ..read more

Hello you. Gah it’s been a while since I wrote on this blog – sorry for that, there’s been a bit of a pandemic going on. However, this is both important and delicious news. It is also news that will benefit your dining during lockdown, as well as helping out others who are in need. You might have heard of FareShare South West, which is part of the National Charity, FareShare. They are the South West’s largest food redistribution charity. They save over 530 tonnes of good surplus food each year from right across the food supply chain and redistribute it to over 300 schools, charities, and commu ..read more

So here we are, lockdown 2.0. Across Bristol and the UK, we have all witnessed the amazing tenacity of our incredible independent hospitality businesses. Adapting everything they know as a result of Coronavirus, it has been a heart-breaking time for many. They have closed, reopened for the imaginatively named ‘Eat Out to Help Out’, changed their settings to reflect social distancing and adopted PPE.  Sadly, some venues have not made it, and for those individuals, I cannot imagine how tough it has been. Now, we are all having to adhere to another lockdown, which starts on Thursday 5th Nov ..read more

First and foremost, my thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost their lives to coronavirus. I also wish for those who are currently unwell, a speedy recovery. This is a really unsettling time for everybody, and we are all in this together. I do not want to advise anyone to do anything dangerous or life-threatening. If you have an underlying condition, or might be vulnerable, please keep yourselves safe. If you are fit and well, please adhere to hygienic precautions and use common sense. The Government has now officially announced that all pubs, restaurants, cafes and bars must close ..read more

Happy International Women’s Day! I’ve been incredibly lucky to have been brought up and always surrounded by intelligent, hilarious, supportive and hard working ladies. My family, my friends, my colleagues, the girls I smile at walking down the street and those who I meet in the girl’s loos on nights out. I’ve also found that I have made real, important relationships with women I follow and interact with online and across social media. Whilst these relationships play out mostly on digital platforms; some of them I have been lucky enough to meet in real life, others I have been able to work wit ..read more

Just when you thought that Bristol couldn’t possibly squeeze another epic Sunday roast dinner within it’s already impressive roster, it goes and does exactly that. The likes of The Cauldron, Gallimaufry, The Bank Tavern (Observer Food award winners now, dontcha know?) and many others I could continue to list, leave us truly spoilt for choice when it comes to an end of the week feed. I mean, there’s even a dedicated Facebook group (nearly 10k members strong mind) which celebrates the best of the gravy slingers in Bristol for those who need some inspiration. Yep, we take our Sunday traditions p ..read more

Oh Jay. A few of you may remember (if you’ve followed me on Twitter for a while), that I’ve engaged with Jay a few times, wanting to stroke his luscious locks or just enjoy a simple hug from him. He’s humoured me once or twice, and also threatened to call the police if I stalk him anymore. But, in a lovely twist of fate, an opportunity has arisen for another chance for me (as well as you), to meet my food hero. Because, he’s coming to Bristol! After the huge success of his ‘My Dining Hell’ and ‘The Ten Food Commandments’, Jay is now bringing his new theatre show to audiences across the UK. ‘My ..read more
