Warner Bros. Interactive is set to remain part of AT&T and may no longer be up for sale, according to a recent press release from the company. Rivals such as Microsoft and EA were interested in acquiring the division (and presumably the licenses to properties such as Mortal Kombat, Harry Potter, the DC universe and many others). Whoever owned it, would be in control of a large number of studios and the potential to corner a significant portion of the market.  AT&T is looking to reduce its debts as they have ballooned in recent years. According to Deadline: "AT&T’s deb ..read more

Thoughts on Rick and Morty Season 4 - Why It Didn't Quite Hit The Mark

Video source: Artur Gudiev I've been a big fan of Rick and Morty ever since it hit and managed to finally get around to finishing season four the other day. Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. Something about it just didn't feel as fresh or funny as previous seasons and I hope things improve over the next seasons (they have a lot of episodes to get this right, though).  I'm going to take a quick overview of the season and tell you what I liked and didn't like about the show.  "Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat" The first episode of Rick and Morty season 4 was a fu ..read more

What next for Epic Games?

If you've been following the tech or gaming press lately, one of the biggest stories has been the ongoing battle between Apple, Google and Epic Games over Fortnite and the refusal to accept the app stores' terms.  The problem with Apple, though, is that it could stop Epic from using Apple's development tools, potentially stopping support for Unreal Engine in iOS and MacOS.   Epic is claiming this is set to happen on the 28th and it could affect a lot of games on the Apple App Store, not to mention Mac games. It is going to court to try and stop this: This is the twee ..read more

Nobody cares what you have to say

Nobody cares what you think. Nobody cares about what you have to say. Nobody is going to listen to what you have to say. This isn't a lyric from a crappy teenage song or me reminiscing about emo music, but something we must all try and contend with when blogging: self doubt. It's there when we open the page and see the emptiness staring back, it's there when our fingers are poised to type and it's there when the idea hits our minds.  We're all familiar with self doubt from growing up. You know it growling at you in the corner of the classroom when the teacher asks you to sta ..read more

What I learnt after blogging for two months

In some ways, this post almost feels a little redundant. I have some exciting plans to share soon and didn't want to write this. But a part of me was really keen about the idea and the inevitable tug-o-war meant there can only be one winner. This post won. I've been blogging for a little over two months and have written a lot. I've explored topics as diverse as machine learning, nanotechnology and game development, in addition to game reviews, consoles and much more besides. It's been a fun, if somewhat long, journey at times and I'm glad I had the opportunity to share my thoughts. In thi ..read more

Thoughts on Star Trek: Lower Decks

Thoughts on Star Trek: Lower Decks Video source: CBS All Access I recently watched the first episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks and have mixed feelings. I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, watched the movies and reruns of Star Trek. I played Star Trek games (one of my favorite FPS game of all time is Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force), read the books, comic books and anything else I could devour.  So I was a little bit disappointed when I watched Lower Decks. The idea, in theory, sounds kinda cool: an alternative look at the side of a starship ..read more

YouTubers I ❤: Dave 2D/Dave Lee Video source: Dave 2D/Dave Lee   Dave Lee is one of my favorite YouTubers because... Beginnings are hard, I know. If this was a school essay, I might have already played several video games, eaten way too much pizza and gone through several drafts. But it's not and I'm unsure how to start this post because it can be hard to write about someone you admire and enjoy watching so much. I first started watching Dave's channel a few years ago when I was sharing a flat with a couple of other young professionals. I wasn't a fan of going into the living room, so I ..read more

Review: Cloud Surfer (Great New Mobile Arcade Game)   Video Source: S Tier Games' YouTube Channel I've played a lot of mobile games and there are some which, in my opinion, deserve a much wider audience. One of these games is the wonderful Cloud Runner by S Tier Games, a developer I hadn't come across before.  This is an endless runner featuring three adorable characters (Pinky, Bluu and Chubs) that have to escape from a large, menacing bug. You will see it appear from the left hand screen of the game as you play and it's your job to try and escape it. Tap to jump and try and get ..read more

Review: Brain Wash by SayGames Video source: Zainu Gamer Brain Wash by SayGames is the hyper-casual equivalent of something like one of the Brain Training games. I'm not sure if this is a new trend, but I've seen a few these pop up on the app stores and they all follow the same style of gameplay: search/fill/fix/solve a random puzzle.  Brain Wash is no different in this regard. The puzzles, all of which are designed in a friendly, modern and approachable style, involve you touching the screen to fix a puzzle, put something in the right order, solve something, move an object or draw so ..read more

Video source: Appysmarts Ah, hyper-casual games. Love or hate them, this business model is here to stay. The idea of short, simple games has evolved neatly from the days of flash based games to the latest releases from Voodoo and other mobile game publishers. Cube Surfer! is the latest hyper-casual game vying for attention. Currently the fifth bestselling game on Google Play, the game's concept is simple yet promising: ride on a stack of cubes and pick up cubes of the same colour throughout the level while going over obstacles until you reach the end. Get as many as you can to ..read more
