Baitcasting reel on a Trevala jigging rod

I bought an Avet SXJ reel, but my Tsunami jigging rod still hasn’t made it to my tackle store. They thought it would be here by now. I’m leaving in two days for a week on a lake full of trout and landlocked salmon. I figured I’d put the Avet on my Trevala spinning rod to play around with for a bit, but numerous online experts say “no don’t! Your rod will break!!!!” (not to anything I queried. I was just looking at things online, casting reel on a spinning rod in general.) I get it, that you wouldn’t want to pair up that rod/reel combination for the long haul, but for a few days I don’t see the ..read more

question for the smart folks I used to have a hullavator in the past-older model years back I recently go the newer model-I have a quesiton   the gold pieces that you attach the arms to the bracket seems different-in the past you put the the straight piece in and the gold arm -the non straight piece was locked in and secure-this one (unless I am doing something wrong) the when you put the straight part in it connects the hullavator arm to the bracket-all good but the gold piece itself moves -it in theory could wiggle itself out (unlikely but.....) see enclosed video sorry for the VERY sha ..read more

Depletion voltage of Li battery?

I bought a Li battery to replace my dying SLA 12v 7ah batteries for my FF. I've been out 2x for 5+ hrs and its still not below 13v! I know the curve is very flat till they poop out, but how do I know, without stranding myself with a dead battery, how low is too low for another trip ..read more

Pedal Yak Under $2k: Hobie vs Pelican

I’ve been using a Pelican paddle kayak in the WLIS but have decided that I’d like to get a pedal kayak as well. Budget is under $2k.   I also need the hull to be as light as possible. My primary launch site is rocky and cumbersome and does not facilitate the use of a cart for launching. Also requires me to clean and press the hull overhead to get it over a concrete wall. I’m a big guy but would like to minimize the potential for injury and/or hull damage and thus weight is a limitation. Plus, if I launch elsewhere I have to car top it with foam/straps, no truck.    I’ve narrowed ..read more

Always lead them to the side of the kayak away from the sun if it's low enough to create a lot of glare. I was bringing in a nice keeper, and the glare off the water prevented me from seeing how deep it was, it broke surface, thrashed and popped. Next one I led to the other side, no problem. I don't use polarized sunglasses as they make seeing the FF very hard. Weird day, either too much wind or too little and often wind against tide so you scope out while standing still ..read more

Conventional jigging rod opinions?
Stripers Online Forum » Kayaking and Kayak Fishing

I generally take a Penn Spinfisher and a Trevala jigging rod (spinning model) out with me in the kayak. Most of my salt water fishing is around the Narragansett RI area. I’ve been wanting to switch to a conventional (casting reel) jigging rod and am ready to pull the trigger, if I can make up my mind. I’m sort of torn between the Tsunami Slimwave, that people seem to be raving about, and a second-hand Trevala casting model, to match my spinning model. The 6’6 MH Trevala is no longer available, I believe, and used ones all seem to fetch $100.  Any opinions? I’m all ears. I’d also cons ..read more

Boats passing kayaks in channel

To be up front I am a boater 95% and oly kayak fish the other 5%.  Also, this isn't a rant and I'm not trying to put anyone down or otherwise throw ****, just some thoughts on everyone helping each other enjoy time on the water.   My boat is moored in an area where I access open water via  achannel that is also used by a LOT of kayakers, especially during the start of black sea bass season.  I always slow down to pass as the channell is small and shallow.  One thing that I have noticed is that it would be very helpful if the kayakers would stop peddling/paddling for ab ..read more
