I don't feed raw as a rule so I'm wondering. Can I give Meisha a raw turkey wing tip? I know people feed raw chicken legs, but I also see warnings about sharing turkey on Thanksgiving, so, advice ..read more

Lexi is nearly 3 now. In the last couple of months she has started getting agitated in the evenings and pleading to go outside. We let her out at first in case she needed to wee, but all she did was run to the back of the garden and bark.
Once she's out there it's very hard to stop her barking or get her in. If we leave her out there, or try to call her in she just stands and barks at us, obviously wanting us to follow her to investigate the "problem". We tried following her to see what...

My previous dog lived to 17/18 years old (a ~30 lb rescue poodle mix). For most of his life he was eating Darwin's brand raw food. He liked it and I partially attribute that diet to why he lived so long. He was also not a very picky eater.
I recently got an 8 week old standard poodle puppy. He is now 16 weeks. His breeder fed him Fromm Gold Premium Large Breed Puppy Food. I bought a 15 lb bag of this food as well as a subscription to Darwin's Raw Food and I've been feeding...

Galen was willing to jump into the car this morning, so he got to go to the garden center instead of Ritter. (Yes, Ritter was displeased at being left home.) I do need to get Galen out on more of these outings. He seemed a bit disgruntled about not being allowed to pee on Christmas trees. (So many trees! So many lost opportunities!) I think he needs to practice his manners a bit more.
We met a different yoga frog than the usual ones. Galen was not interested in yoga frogs.

I took Ritter for a walk in the woods. It was unusually warm, almost sweatshirt weather, so Ritter was panting a bit in his winter woolies. We met another dog walker, who came up on us so suddenly that Ritter didn't have time to react. He politely sniffed noses and then wanted to move on. The other dog very much wanted to play with him, even though she was a quarter his size. His disinterest tells me he's really not a puppy any more ..read more

About 17 years ago, my mother took me to look at a litter of kittens.
Their mother was a barn cat - the well-meaning farm owners had recently moved from the city and had neutered all the male barn cats on the property. Neutering was cheaper than spaying, you see.... so there was a litter of free kittens in the kitchen. I chose the black kitten, with all the logic of childhood- because i had heard they were hard to place.... there was a book i liked with a black cat... and i liked the idea...

I was waiting for a store to open today and saw a little white poodle face in the car next to mine. The owner got out and I rolled down my window and we had a lovely poodle share. His mom had a toy and as much as he wanted to be that macho guy and ignore her frou, frou; they were besotted. His mother at 90, asked him to to take over the poodle’s care. He did and the dog lived long and broke his heart when it passed many years later. Then he added that they got a mini and walked 1,000...

We live in NYC but went to my parent's retirement house in the Adirondacks for Thanksgiving. The girls never get to run like this. Our city house and yard is only 16 feet wide, on a 100 foot long lot, so you can imagine their joy at seeing this place. ?
