An early season rematch!
That’s right folks, we have our first rematch of the young season. That means we have a brand new, shiny sidebar with updated 2024 stats and different categories we’ll go through in this article. Since the Twins just played them a week ago, their outlook has changed very little, so be sure to check out the Round 1 preview as well.
Quick note: all stats are accurate through the games on April 17th.
What’s changed since we last met?
As I said from the top, not much! It’s been a grand total of four days since the Twins last saw Detroi ..read more

Can the Twins overcome Lewis’s quad like they did Mauer’s knee?
After 24-year-old Royce Lewis’s 2023 playoff heroics revitalized Twins Territory, his first 2024 swing lofted a home run over Kauffman Stadium’s LF fence—the legend seemingly continued. Two-and-a-half innings later, he was removed from the game after coming up lame rounding second base. Diagnosed with a significant quad injury that will likely cost him at least two months, it was a bitter pill in lieu of the high expectations.

Remember what the groundskeepers keep saying in “Major League”? That. | Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports
Walked off, and walk away.
[...instrumental break over.]
Best of hopes were wary,
Narrow gap to sham it;
Fling the ball... sod it all,
Hollering GODDAMMIT!!
Arms a massive tangle,
Whiffs like a buffoon might;
Homers three hurt brutally;
DUDS are across the gamut.
Sputter sprinkling sparely,
Special spunk spy spartan.
STUDS are few: Pablo, Stew,
Austin Martin.

To borrow from Craig Dykstra in the Invitational:
“I am the Minnesota Twins and...
It’s getting to the point where I’m no fun anymore,
I am sorry.
Sometimes it hurts so badly I must cry out loud,
Losing only.
I can’t score, few are fine,
We are what we are,
We make it hard.

The Orioles lineup got to Chris Paddack early and often as they cruised to victory.
Chris Paddack did not have it tonight in Baltimore. In the 2nd inning James McCann hit an RBI double, then Gunnar Henderson blasted a 2-run homer to make it a 3-0 game. With the Twins hitting as poorly as they have this year, that felt like it was probably enough to win. Still, the Orioles added 4 more runs in the 3rd, including a 2-run homer by Jordan Westburg.
Byron Buxton had a good game today, and it started with a triple to left that scored Alex Kirilloff from first.

The Twins try to right the ship.

Taking the mound for the Twins today is Chris Paddack. He’s had a quite mediocre start to his season, with a 4.15 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in two starts. Opposite Paddack for the Orioles is the righty Grayson Rodriguez. He’s 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA in his three starts so far this year.
The Twins lineup really needs to get going, as they rank dead last in MLB with a .194 batting average as a team. It doesn’t get any easier today against R ..read more

The Twins made progress at the plate but still had issues in all facets
The Minnesota Twins seemingly made some progress in Monday night’s 7-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. But they also had issues in the three major stages of the game that combined to send them to yet another defeat.
On the plus side of the ledger, the Twins had 11 hits as a team, tied for their most in a game this season and the most sin ..read more

The Baltimore Orioles came out of nowhere to win 101 games last season. They’re not sneaking up on anyone in 2024.
In a stacked American League East, the Orioles are 9-6 and 2.5 games back of New York; all five teams in the division are at least .500 through the first two-plus weeks of the season. Insanity.

Loaded with current and former top prospects that all look the same, are we sure the Orioles don’t actually have a cloning lab?
The Baltimore Orioles shocked the world by winning 101 games in 2023. They had several young players break out and become face-of-the-league types. With 3 - 4 more top hitters on the way, the Orioles are on their way to establishing a dynasty in the American League like the Astros before them.
While the Orioles can seemingly grow hitters on trees, their pitching development hasn’t quite had the same level of success ..read more
