Hello guys, First time plumber looking for some advice please. I have enclosed 2x pictures to help flesh out my descriptions. On the rear of our building, there is a horizontal waste pipe (pictured) which runs from an upstairs bathroom, across the rear of the house and connects to the soil stack. Around halfway across this horizontal pipe, there is a connector (pictured) which it's possible to rotate whilst in-situ. This has 3x connection options, which are currently blanked off. (Not... Just moved to a property and on the wall in the boiler room is an LP electronic descaler - it’s turned off but all wired and in place Saw some very old thread on this kind of things from 10+ years ago with inconclusive results - the science is also a little sketchy on this one Is it worth turning it back on or shall I just take it of the wall to scrap ..read more

Basin mixer installation

Hi, I have bought a new mixer tap for my bathroom basin to install. The flexi hoses come with 3/8 connections and I have an isolation valve to connect to. It’s too large however and I believe I’ll need an adaptor and nut and olive to get these to marry up. The things is it looks like. 3/4 inch connection and I only see 15mm discussed online. Perhaps I’m measuring it incorrectly? Maybe there’s a better way to connect it? Please let me know Thanks ..read more

Hello, I'm wondering if I bought this bath shower mixer tap, does anyone know if I'd be able remove the cradle and shower hose, and connect a rigid riser into the top. How universal are they? I have the taps that match this one on my sink, and would like to have the matching mixer tap for my bath, but want a rigid riser. Thanks ..read more

Do I need a separate UFH pump for an ASHP?

Hi, As ever, apologies if this has been covered before. Looking at getting an ASHP in the future and kitting the house out in preparation. Would an underfloor heating manifold need a pump, or is the pump within the ASHP adequate? Two ground floor UFH rooms, 15 metre square each ie under 100m of 16mm pipe in each, then two upper floors with radiators all 22mm plumbing. House approx 100metre square floor area. Can I get a manifold without a pump, then add one later? Currently, we only have... Read more ..read more

Replacing small electric water heater

I recently moved into a house that has a small 10-litre electric water heater in a "shepherd's hut" type outbuilding. The heater had corroded and was leaking so at the moment the water is turned off. I thought I'd just replace it like-for-like but having looked for a replacement I'm now not sure what I should buy and after a bit of advice. The old heater was a Gabarron GTS 10, fitted under the sink but the water pipes are on the bottom of the unit which seems to make it actually an... Read more ..read more

How to set the heating temperature above 55 degrees on my Viessmann Vitodens 111-w?

Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me with raising the central heating temperature above 55 degrees on the above boiler. Instructions read to go into the menu using the three bar icon and then use the up arrow to increase temperature. However I can’t set the temperature any higher than 55 degrees. I can use the up and down arrows below this top temperature of 55 but no higher. It seems 55 has been set elsewhere as the maximum temperature. Any ideas? Thanks very much ..read more

Hi, my heating which uses a Vaillant ecotec plus 418 boiler installed on an open vented central heating system using S plan has stopped working. The problem is the boiler is not firing up. The boiler status shows S30, which means there is no external demand for heat. I checked the SL to the boiler on Terminal No 4 is live when I call for hot water, or heating via the programmer, and the cylinder and room thermostats are not satisfied. The heating and hot water two port valves open if there... Read more ..read more

Need Advice on Installing Shower Pump for Low Water Pressure

Hello everyone, I'm seeking advice on installing a shower pump to address the low water pressure in my home. Currently, I have a water tank gravity/valve system, and the water pressure is less than ideal. I'm considering installing a 2.0 bar positive pump system to improve the situation. Here's my plan: I have the cold water pipe in the loft and the hot water pipe in the airing cupboard. My idea is to insert a T-junction in the cold water pipe, run a pipe into the airing cupboard, and... Read more ..read more
