I have an ideal vogue max S18 boiler and I’m considering fitting auto balancing TRVs, my question relates to the boilers pump.
I see a boiler pump menu for either 70% or 100%, so, is the pump set at either one of two fixed speed percentages or does the pump actually vary speed, (modulate) based on other parameters, my understanding is that auto balancing is only effective when their is constant flow.
Any help to demystify is appreciated ..read more

We are from Alberta, and I own an electrical company.
I have been asked by a BC Mechanical P. Eng. to install an emergency STOP button at the man-door to the boiler room. It's intent is to 'halt' the operation of the boilers in the room should there be an emergency. He is demanding that I do this by de-energizing the main primary power feeding the power! Dumping the incoming power kills all the VFD's, and PLC's, and the CPU to the boiler! Why not control the boiler's control circuit??? I find this odd and illogical.
1) Understandably, emergencies happen, however, what emergency is this inten ..read more

Hi all I'm hoping someone can shine a light on this for me
Since our stop tap on the pavement has now been filled with sand for whatever reason, we are relying on our property fitted stopcock (this is outside on our garage wall)
Unfortunately turning this to the closed position only reduces the flow of water and doesn't stop it completely. Obviously this would be a real problem if we ever sprung a leak!
Before I get someone in I wondered if someone had seen one of these before? I was thinking of making sure whoever fitted it hadn't simply put the valve tap on the wrong way that is then stop ..read more

Hello,
I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks ..read more

We run a community village hall and have a large kitchen provided for the use of hirers. This includes a Lincat SLR9 gas cooker which I believe is a 23.8Kw appliance with all six burners and oven on max. This was installed some 10 years ago and has passed all subsequent Gas Safety inspections as part of the boiler(s) annual check.
We have decided to get the oven serviced and checked over as part of normal schedule and the company approached to do the service has asked if the cooker has an "extraction canopy above it and an interlock system to meet current gas safety regulations?"
We do have an ..read more

Hello all,
I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I have to dig down an additional 50mm into the existing hardcore to accommodate the additional concrete.
However, when I removed the original 50mm slabs and started to dig the hardcore, I found a 4” sewer pipe just under the surface of the hardcore, sloping downwards form the boundary wall to the neighb ..read more
