Flange leak from Grundfos record pump
Plumbing Forums

Hello – We have had our house re-piped, and the record pump was connected in a new configuration. The pump is a Grundfos UP 14-42 SF (bronze, which has disappeared from the Grundfos catalog) Unfortunately, it is now leaking from the output flange (arrow). I am confused in searching for gaskets, as to whether it needs flat flange gaskets (like Amazon B07G8NWMB5) or (rectangular cross-section) o-rings. Can someone illuminate me please? Or must I go ahead... Read more ..read more

Clay problems
Plumbing Forums

A few years ago we began having problems with our well. Any time we use more water than a relatively normal amount of daily usage, we start getting clay in the water. This is especially challenging as we live on a farm and need to fill water on a regular basis. If we over use the water, the water will be grey for a day or so until it clears out of the system. Our well maintenance guy had us run a hose for 8 or so hours to see if it would clear the clay out. It didn't work. He also tried... Read more ..read more

I had a plumber come out & replace the cast iron under the house. He rerouted the sewer pipe along side of the garage. He did replace the cast iron y-pipe& vent pipe. He claims that vent pipe.needs to be replaced.? This does not make sense not sure why a hub connector cannot be used. The vent pipe probably needs to supported. But not sure why a bracket cannot be used. He also did not replace the sewer pipe in the garage. He connected from the sewer line to the new outside line. I am... Read more ..read more

Replacing PVR

Looking for a little help. Woke up this morning to wet carpet in our closet. Next to it is the main water shutoff and pvr. Looks like pvr is leaking at the adjustment nut. Trying to figure out which part I need to order to fix this. Also, the main water shutoff seems to be next to the pvr. Can I just close that and not deal with finding the shutoff at the street? Thanks a bunch for the help ..read more

Toto ultramax2 - neoprene washers to reduce rocking?
Plumbing Forums

I'm installing a toto ultramax2 toilet on a 1' square tile floor with a Danco perfect seal wax ring. I dry fitted the toilet, no ring, and it rocks every so slightly. The flange is flush so I'm confident there is no interference and also place the toilet in different part of the bathroom and it didn't rock. I used a carpenter's rafter square and found a very small gap so I suspect one tile is not exactly in plane with the others. To reduce stop the rocking, I place ~0.05" thick neoprene... What adapter to go from 1/4" copper pipe to 3/8" black pipe.

I have a 1/4" copper pipe from the gas meter through a brick/2x4 wall, it then has a flare T with one side going to the furnace and the other going to the water heater. The wall is unfinished (no drywall), but I want to put up drywall. To do that I need to straighten out the existing pipe to minimize the cutout in the drywall. I would like to have black pipe going from outside, through the wall to the inside, then a T, with a valve off each side. Then 1/4" copper going to the furnace and... Read more ..read more

Venting & Ejector Pump Advice
Plumbing Forums

Hi everyone, I’m seeking advice for a new bathroom project in my basement. My project is field inspection/over the counter permit only since it’s very small. I have attached a sketch of what I’m trying to do. And my question is, Since an ejector pump basin already requires a vent for the pit itself, do I need another venting pipe else where (for code)? If so where would I put it along my drawing? Any other general advice would be much appreciated. Green - new 3” or 4” abs drain that... Read more ..read more

Two sources for a hose bib?
Plumbing Forums

I have very hard water at my home so I have a water softener. I have a hose bib on the side of my house, right near where the main water comes in which is also where the water softener is. I have access to the plumbing both before and after the water softener. I am looking into the possibility of adding some sort of A/B valve where I can switch the water source for the hose bib between the pre- and post-softened water. Cars wash better with softened water, while plants and flowers thrive... Read more ..read more

Greetings and thank you in advance for all help. HWH in a manufactured home needs to be replaced. Actually the building is permanently sitting on a full poured concrete foundation, 8' ceilings, poured concrete floor. The boiler and HWH are in the basement, not in the manufactured housing area. Does the HUD requirement still apply? Thank you ..read more
