FA Cup replays have been scrapped in changes to the competition’s format ahead of the 2024/25 campaign. The news comes amid concerns over the congested nature of the football calendar, with all replays to be removed from the first round. Previously, there had been no replays from the fifth-round onwards. Football League sides had opposed the abolishment of FA Cup replays with the potential to miss out on high-revenue ties against clubs higher up the pyramid, though the chances come alongside an agreement between the FA and Premier League for greater support of the lower leagues.   Premie ..read more

Before Monday night the Golden Boot race was already set to be one of the tightest and most engaging battles for the award in recent memory – then Cole Palmer ratcheted things up a notch or four.  The Chelsea forward completely tore apart the defence at Stamford Bridge, scoring a first-half hat-trick to continue his remarkable campaign before grabbing a fourth from the spot for good measure. That puts the 21-year-old on top of the scoring charts this term with 20 goals, level with a certain Manchester City striker. Palmer will doubtless have his eye on being there when the season conclud ..read more

Fantasy Premier League is throwing us a number of double gameweeks as the run-in really kicks into gear.  There are only five gameweeks left before the season concludes, but three of them will see teams play twice in the one week. This could be the most crucial stage of the campaign for many FPL managers, when every decision can have a big impact on your rank and where you end up in your mini-leagues.   That’s why it is essential to navigate these double gameweeks with proper planning as it gives players the opportunity to maximise their returns and potentially climb massively up th ..read more

Erling Haaland is the holder, while Ollie Watkins has said he wants it, but who will end the campaign with the Premier League’s Golden Boot? Haaland’s record-breaking feats last season made it a one-horse race to finish as the Premier League’s leading scorer, though that’s not the case this time around in an open field. We look at the current standings and the favourites to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot. Dominic Solanke – Bournemouth (17 goals) It wasn’t so long ago that Dominic Solanke’s top-flight credentials were doubted. The forward had failed to find his feet in the Premier League ..read more

Our weekly Premier League awards honour the best – and worst – of the football action from the weekend. Moment of the Week Was this the weekend the momentum of the title race truly shifted? It certainly feels like it. The champions are back on top after Manchester City thrashed Luton at the Etihad, with would-be contenders Liverpool and Arsenal each losing on home soil. Liverpool’s loss to Crystal Palace was a shock but a continuation of flat performances in recent weeks, a result that followed the Reds’ dismal home defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League. It’s a huge compliment, but it’s hard not to see a little Thierry Henry in Alexander Isak. There were certainly similarities between the Arsenal icon and Isak in terms of how he took a devastating double against Tottenham this weekend, netting twice as Newcastle thrashed the north Londoners 4-0 ..read more

Man United boss Erik ten Hag had mixed emotions over his side having to come from behind yet again in a Premier League match.  Bournemouth took an early lead during Saturday’s encounter between the two sides at Dean Court after Dominic Solanke scored from range in the 16th minute. Bruno Fernandes equalised at the half hour mark, but it didn’t take long for the Cherries to go ahead again, this time through Justin Kluivert.   A controversial handball decision gave the Man United skipper another opportunity to level matters, converting from the spot to earn the Red Devils a point on th ..read more
