Pomfret Fish Curry for Kids Introducing flavorful curries to children need not be difficult if we alter traditional recipes tad bit to the early gourmands who have hound proficiencies and catfish like taste buds. My mother’s traditional Malwani Fish Curry is flavored using Triphala, Garlic, Ginger, Green Chillies and traditonal Malwani Masala which are robust in flavours. Small kids may not appreciate the punch of spices that adults enjoy with a chilled beer by the sea. Kids need slow yet study approach when it comes to food habits development. So here is our take of my mother’s traditional ma ..read more

“Whatever is served to you, eat it without making faces? Even if you don’t like it eat it because it is on your plate” – my mother preached with a disciplined tone. She would bend the hell down for this rule thus me and my brother never ever dared to insult food. We would eat it without any calms even if the dish turned out bit salty or bit too sweet or bit too charred, we never complained. Two things happened because of this absolute rule in our house, we ate everything wherever we would be served. our aunts and mom’s friends loved serving us their delicacies because we ate with pleasure. My struggles with baking need no introduction. I have been trying to bake a decent edible cake in my oven for last two three years but then something would be amiss and the cake would either be soggy or too hard or it would not rise. During the lockdown, everyone was baking cake and hence I was all the more nauseated with the idea making one cause I suck at it but when my kid demanded for a cake the gazillionth time I tried to rise up to the occasion. So after a lot of trials with the oven setting and many mug cakes later I finally managed to find one recipe that works with my oven and the en ..read more

During the lockdown, initially our beloved two minute maggi was a luxury. It happens. Things which we considered immortal also had to undergo a months wait cycle to get back into the supply chain management. More than hunger management, Maggie manges mood swings. It is something you go looking for in the kitchen as a kid goes looking for his momma, just for the heck of it. It is a sentiment. Healthy or not healthy, it is aloof of all these arguments. When you want maggi, you want maggi and nothing else. Also, when with the current covid situation, we still prefer cooking up at home with whatev ..read more

Fishy on Me title inspired from the song Fishy on Me by Dr.Sus Before the covid situation, we used to buy fish from our local fish market at Gorai, Mumbai. The relationship with your fishwali is key to buying good fish. You need to convey that you know your fish and you can buy the fish. You need to understand that a fish vendor can never afford to lose a good customer because his reputation is at stake. A vegetable vendor will still thug you with a bad potato here and there but a once you have a rapport with a fish vendor, he is your best friend for life. Fish is not a cheap commodity hence t ..read more

The current sentiments against China across the globe are dynamic. The rise of Novel Coronavirus 2019 in Wuhan and then their demographic movement on the Indian LAC at Galwan Valley, Ladakh have created a havoc for local Chinese Food Sellers here in India, especially in the rural belts. India is has always been very adaptive when it comes to food. We can make a dish loaded with onions like Pav Bhaji and make it absolutely Jain community friendly without compromising on the taste. Same is true to any other cusinese. We made vegetarian sushi rolls, treated golgappa as canapes and papad as taco ..read more

Few days back got a nice bunch of coriander and other leafy veggies. Pre monsoon loot you see, because once the downpour starts getting any decent fresh produce is out of question. Considering the current Mumbai pandemic situation going hay wire our aim is to make best use of whatever we have till the last drop. We have been on the ‘living sustainable’ route for quite sometime ( trust me we are no where near but now we are mindful of our lifestyle choices) . So when this time fresh produce came in which was actually fresh, I prepared a vegetable stock out of the scraps. Preparing vegetable sto ..read more

Samo Rice aka Jungle rice aka Varicha Tandul (वरीचा तांदूळ)is an ingredient famous during the fasting season.  As a kid I was not much fan of this grain or the items that were prepared from it, well truth be told I am still not, but as a homemaker now I tend to prep this dish whenever I am in rush or nauseated of the Sabudana Khichadi. Jungle rice is also know for it immune boosting properties hence considering the current pandemic situation, it makes the cut into healthy foods must eat category. Lets begin. What will you need? Jungle Rice: 1 Cup Potatoes: 1 large or 2 medium. Diced med ..read more
