EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey HITC understands Newcastle United are stepping up their efforts to sign Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth. Newcastle have seen their defence decimated with injury this season as Sven Botman and captain Jamal Lascelles both picked up season-ending injuries. Botman and Lascelles both suffered anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in March, meaning neither could participate in their end-of-season run-in. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has done his best to cope with their absence, but it has confirmed their need to bolster their defensive ranks with at least one new cen ..read more

Manchester United’s poor run of form continued on Saturday when they failed to win against Bournemouth. Erik ten Hag’s side had won just one of their previous five Premier League matches heading into the game against Bournemouth away from home on Saturday afternoon. Manchester United are not going to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season and may not even get into Europe next campaign. Dominic Solanke has stunned almost everybody with his rise since being sold by Liverpool to Bournemouth back in 2019. Liverpool have been regularly praised for their ability to sell players for hefty fees. Rhian Brewster and Jordon Ibe spring to mind, failing to really build on their early potential at Liverpool. Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona funded some big signings for Liverpool and the likes of Danny Ward, Danny Ings and Mamadou Sakho all brought in considerable cash. One which stood out at the time was the deal to send Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth for a cool £19million. Solanke h ..read more

With the European Championships now less than three months away, a 6-1 defeat may have actually given a midfielder on the radar of Tottenham, Newcastle United and Aston Villa a timely boost.  The much-coveted enforcer was not, after all, one of the players who started as Ralf Rangnick’s Austria side ran riot in midweek, cruising to a six-goal victory as they continue to cement their status as one of the summer’s ‘dark horses’.  That, interestingly, was a tag worn by Turkey back in Euro 2020. One that they certainly didn’t live up to, a group-stage exit taking many by surprise. If hea ..read more

Whenever a player is banging in the goals elsewhere, questions tend to be asked about the club who sold him. But for Liverpool, it is understandable why a man who has 17 in 32 games this season found opportunities so hard to come by at Anfield.  Jurgen Klopp, after all, had Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi and Danny Ings at his disposal. Was there a better selection of forwards anywhere in European football back in 2017/18?   And while some will argue that one of the most improved centre-forwards in the English game would be a useful member of Klopp’s squad these d ..read more

There’s certainly no shortage of former Arsenal youngsters who have gone on to achieve some pretty big things since leaving English football.  Serge Gnabry is a Germany international and a multiple Bundesliga champion at Bayern Munich. Donyell Malen is one of the first names on the Borussia Dortmund team sheet. Yunus Musah and Ismael Bennacer are team-mates at Serie A giants AC Milan.  But will we one day be including the name of Catalin Cirjan amongst the aforementioned quartet? The 21-year-old is still an Arsenal player, technically speaking, but his future remains uncertain with h ..read more
