Five Bold Royals Predictions for the 2024 Season
The Royals Reporter

Oof. It’s been a rough couple of weeks of work, which explains why I have not posted here in nearly 14 days. Hopefully, things will die soon, allowing me to post more frequently, starting in April. I am certainly paying attention to the Royals’ upcoming season. Still, my lack of Tweets has also demonstrated that I am having difficulty finding the bandwidth to post as much as I want on this blog (and “Farm to Fountains”). I’ll also be honest: The NCAA Tournament (Go Zags) and the whole stadium vote stuff on April 2nd (I’m not going to tell you where I lean because I can’t vote in it, so don’t a ..read more

Royals Opening Day Lineup and Bench Predictions (Volume 1)
The Royals Reporter
by Kevin O'Brien

Sorry for the lack of posts and Tweets over the past two days. I am on Spring Break, and I spent the last two days watching Big 12 basketball all day at the T-Mobile Center (and fared pretty unsuccessfully betting-wise, too). Now that I am no longer in conference tournament basketball mode, I can focus on some Royals posts. In my last post, I predicted the Royals’ pitching staff, including rotation and bullpen. Shortly after my post, the Royals announced they would option reliever John McMillon to Triple-A Omaha. RHP John McMillon has been optioned to Omaha (AAA). We now have 54 players in ..read more

“KC Chase to the Pennant”: Early Royals Spring Training Thoughts
The Royals Reporter
by Kevin O'Brien

It has been a few days since we went live, but I wanted to share our most recent episode of “KC Chase to the Pennant” here on the blog. In this episode, we talk mostly about the first week of Spring Training and point out who’s been “hot” and who’s frankly been “not” so far in Cactus League play (shout out to all those who went to high school in the early 2000s who know what I’m referring to). Here are a few additional thoughts on what Cristian and I discussed in last Thursday’s hour-long podcast. We both really like what Cole Ragans has done this spring on the mound. Furthermore, this was b ..read more

Four Royals Players Off to Slow Starts in Cactus League Play (Should We Be Worried?)
The Royals Reporter
by Kevin O'Brien

In my post yesterday, I looked at four Royals non-roster invitees who have gotten off to encouraging starts in Spring Training. In today’s post, I will look at four Royals players on the 40-man roster who have started off slow in the Cactus League as of Sunday, March 3rd. Granted, Cactus League performance must always be taken with a grain of salt. When it comes to veterans, it typically is about focusing on processes rather than performance. That said, should some of the rough performances we have seen thus far this spring be a reason for worry for Royals fans? Or is it just a blip that will ..read more

Four Royals Non-Roster Invitees Impressing So Far in Cactus League Play
The Royals Reporter

The Royals are 6-3 in Cactus League play after a Friday win against the Oakland Athletics. That record puts them in a tie with four other teams at the top of the standings. Weekend-opening walk-off. pic.twitter.com/Pik4HbKFZm — Kansas City Royals (@Royals) March 1, 2024 As Royals fans know, Spring Training standings must always be taken with a grain of salt. The Royals have plenty of “Cactus League” titles, only for that success to disappear once the regular season begins. Nonetheless, spring training can be a great time to recognize some performing players who weren’t expected to do so bef ..read more

“Reporter Jottings”: Royals Fantasy Draft; Fantasy Shortstop Sleepers; Farm to Fountains Announcement

It’s been another busy first couple of days of work, which explains why I haven’t been able to do much posting or Tweeting regarding Royals Spring Training. I hope to share some thoughts about what we have seen in Royals Cactus League games at the end of the week, as a lot is going on in Arizona to pay attention to and be encouraged about as Royals fans for the upcoming season. With that said, I have been involved in a lot outside of “The Royals Reporter” over the past couple of weeks. In this post, I highlight those items, which include a Royals Fantasy Draft with Cristian on “KC Chase to the ..read more

How Does Austin Nola Fit Into the Royals’ Roster Equation?
The Royals Reporter
by Kevin O'Brien

Just when Royals fans think that JJ Picollo and the Royals front office are done building the roster for the offseason, they got out and made a surprising move the evening before their first Cactus League game of the 2024 season. The #Royals have signed catcher Austin Nola to a one-year contract, pending a physical, according to a source. It is a major league deal, per source. Nola has options and would be under team control through 2025 (he has four years of service time). Released by the Brewers today. — Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) February 23, 2024 Nola originally signed a Minor League d ..read more

The full Royals Spring Training roster has officially reported to Surprise, Arizona. Thanks to the work of the Royals beat reporters and team media folks, we’re seeing a lot of early content of pitchers and position players working out at the Royals Spring Training complex over the past week. Full swing in Surprise.#RoyalsST pic.twitter.com/cPGD2lF4cL — Kansas City Royals (@Royals) February 19, 2024 It’s exciting to see the new Royals Spring Training caps (powder blue hats are back baby!) and many Royals players, both familiar and unfamiliar, training for the upcoming Cactus League campaign ..read more

KC Chase to the Pennant: Ballpark and Spring Training Thoughts; Royals Season Tier Rankings
The Royals Reporter

I apologize for the gap between posts. This has been a busy week work-wise and honestly, the tragedy of Wednesday’s parade had me in a bit of a funk on Wednesday and Thursday, two days I initially planned on posting. I will try to have a deeper post on Saturday, especially with Royals players trickling in this week (including all pitchers and catchers). I want to be able to preview a couple of position battles and/or players before next Tuesday. In the meantime, I wanted to share the latest episode of “KC Chase to the Pennant“, where Cristian and I talk about the new ballpark announcement, Spr ..read more

Pre-Spring Training AL Central Predictions (Volume 2)
The Royals Reporter
by Kevin O'Brien
1M ago
My first volume of AL Central Predictions came back in December. Back then, the Royals hadn’t signed Bobby Witt, Jr. to a massive extension, but they had just signed Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha, and Hunter Renfroe. Furthermore, not a lot of projections had come out yet, so it was difficult to tell what the computers were saying not just about the Royals, but the other four clubs in the AL Central. With pitchers and catchers starting to report around the league this week (with the Royals reporting on Valentine’s Day), I figured it would be a good time to re-examine my initial AL Central prediction ..read more
