Royals all-star catcher Salvador Perez put on a show at the Home Run Derby, smashing 28 homers in round one. His 28 home runs were the most ever for a catcher in the event, and second-most in the first round in Monday’s derby. Unfortunately for Perez, he was up against eventual champion Pete Alonzo, who hit a derby record 35 home runs in the first round. Despite hitting 28 home runs, enough to defeat the other six participants, Perez missed out on a chance to advance to the second round. Royals pitcher Danny Duffy will make his return to action Wednesday after a stint on the IL. Duffy will face the Yankees in New York, setting up a potential home start against the Twins on July 3. Duffy went on the IL in mid-May with a left forearm flexor strain. After rehabbing for more than a month, Duffy is set to take the hill in New York on Wednesday. The Royals announced today (May 25) that shortstop Adalberto Mondesi will make his 2021 season debut tonight in Tampa Bay. Mondesi missed the first 45 games of the season due to an oblique injury. Mondesi’s return could help give the Royals (22-23) a badly needed lineup boost. The team has been struggling at the plate of late, and has a -25 run differential this season. The team also announced that single game Royals tickets will be available for the rest of the season beginning on May 20. Having the Royals back at full capacity will give fans more of an opportunity to see their home town team live.
