I witnessed a spirited debate among 2 seasoned beekeepers today about replacing a queen.
The subject was whether to dispatch her and drop her into the hive versus catching her and dispatching her elsewhere.
Each felt their way was best for the hive to accept the new queen.
Anyone want to weigh in on their thoughts ..read more

My husband paints oil paintings. I am the one that scans them, color corrects, stitches together scans of large paintings ( up to 20 separate scan images), resize them for print and web and file them digitally with all the info needed to access them later.
Scanning is a particular time consuming job and sometimes. I have not mastered taking photos good enough for prints.
This last month he seems to want to change a bunch of paintings in small or big ways. The means the process starts...

So, for as long as I can remember the general consensus among growers was that hilling potatoes help increase yields by prompting the vine to create more tubers. Now Im reading that alot of people are dismissing this idea, claiming the only reason to hill is to prevent "greening" of tubers exposed to sunlight.
What say you? The general direction these things take is we begin with some old school idea, then it gets poo-poo'd by "science" [ or somebody claiming to speak for science ]. Often...

I came home from work yesterday to see this.
I thought someone must have dump a old bag of fertilizer or something sim in my garbage can.

We've always drank whole milk and a lot of it. Some years back we discovered Fairlife and haven't bought anything since until today. The DW was in a different city and the store doesn't carry it but they did have a local supplier of whole raw milk. It is heavenly. Yeah, I didn't ask the price. But it's just MILK!
It's a rip to have to pay these prices but ..read more

Davis School District review committee decided to pull The Bible from all schools other than those at a high school level after a parent filed a challenge, citing passages that describe sex and violence.

Getting older is getting more difficult.I am not 29 anymore. " I am as good once as I ever was" I am thankful for the hearing aids. I lost the right one outside when I was splitting wood yesterday. The bluetooth connection tells me the actual hearing aid is nearby the wood splitter, in amongst the piles of leaves and wood chips. I made an insurance claim for the missing aid, soon I can listen to my Spotify in both ears! The knee brace is because I over extended my leg and the muscles when I...
