Marseille president Pablo Longoria confirms that Pape Gueye is free to leave during the January transfer window with Premier League strugglers Burnley reportedly eyeing up a £15 million deal.
The Ligue 1 giants, Longoria explains, had set a deadline of early January as they looked to tie the former Sevilla loanee down to a new deal. That deadline passed almost a week ago, however, and with Pape Gueye still yet to extend a contract which is due to expire in July, Marseille will no longer look to stand in his way should Burnley step up their interest.

Brighton and Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro admits he was ‘upset’ about that failed £30 million move to Premier League rivals Newcastle United back in 2022.
At least, back in England’s top flight and rewarded for his impressive recent displays with a first-ever call-up for the Brazilian national team, Joao Pedro can now look back on that aborted switch to St James’ Park and be relieved that it did not end up curtailing his progress.
Watford refused to cash in even when receiving a £30 million bid from Newcastle United a year ago (Sky Sports). Brighton, ironically, would then strike ..read more

Watford starlet Yaser Asprilla has hit out at the ‘lies’ suggesting he could have joined Premier League high-flyers Newcastle United over the summer.
Young, hungry, supremely technical, highly tenacious and overflowing with delicious potential, Yaser Asprilla is certainly a player who ticks plenty of boxes for a Newcastle United side who’s transfer policy is dictated by the demands of Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe these days.
So when Colombian publication Antena2 reported back in August that the Watford wonderkid wanted to move to the Premier League – amid interest from Newcastle and ..read more

Ray Parlour has highlighted Brighton and Hove Albion’s ‘unbelievable recruitment’ as the Premier League high-flyers close in on a deal for Newcastle United target Joao Pedro.
Add the respective transfer fees of Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma, Pascal Gross, Evan Ferguson, Julio Enciso, Joel Veltman, Tariq Lamptey, Yves Bissouma and Leandro Trossard together, and you would still get change out of £60 million.
Joao Pedro, then, represents something of a change of tack.

Newcastle United are not being put off from signing Joao Pedro despite a belief that Watford will command big money.
That is according to a report from The Chronicle, who claim that Newcastle are keeping close tabs on Joao Pedro.
It’s noted that Newcastle were keen on signing the Brazilian last summer but talks ended up stalling.
Newcastle ended up ‘walking away’ from a deal for the Watford star and turned their attention elsewhere.
Alexander Isak was signed instead but Dan Ashworth and Eddie Howe both really like Joao Pedro.
The report adds that Newcastle are ‘unlikely’ to be deterred by the ..read more

Newcastle United are back in for Joao Pedro once again as they eye up the Watford attacker for a summer move to Tyneside.
That’s according to The Athletic, who suggest that Newcastle are tracking the Brazilian’s progress.
It’s unclear if Joao Pedro is a top target for the summer but Newcastle are certainly looking at him closely.
The report does though add that Italian side AC Milan are very keen on signing Joao Pedro this summer.
Milan may not be able to afford the Watford man though with his contract at Vicarage Road only expiring in 2028.
That gives Newcastle a potential boost if they do ma ..read more

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have wanted to sign Ismaila Sarr for a while now, and it seems that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners will get another chance to get the Watford winger at the end of the season.
And perhaps this time it will be the best chance of them all.
Liverpool linked with Watford winger Ismaila Sarr previously
Back in August 2022, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffSide that Liverpool have followed Watford winger Sarr “for years”
Romano said that although Liverpool never actually bid for the Senegal international winger, the departure of Sa ..read more

Adrian Mariappa believes Watford striker Joao Pedro is ‘definitely’ a Premier League player after Everton eyed his transfer. An injury meant the Toffees did not push for a winter deal.
Reports by The Telegraph cited Pedro as a target for Everton as Goodison Park chiefs eyed late offensive reinforcements. But the Merseyside outfit were reluctant to commit to a bid as the 21-year-old had not recovered from the ankle ligament issue he suffered on Boxing Day.
A host of top-flight teams in the lower half of the table had monitored Pedro’s efforts with Watford over the first half of the season. He h ..read more
