Baltimore Sports and Life » Baltimore Orioles
by Rose Katz

On July 9, 2023, Austin Hays wrapped up the best first half of his career by going 2-for-5 with a homer to raise his OPS to .853. Two days later, Hays started the All-Star Game in Seattle.   However, not much has gone right for Hays since then.  Hays posted a .667 OPS in the second half and has followed that with a very alarming start to 2024 with a .269 OPS and zero extra-base hits after 18 games and 46 plate appearances.  So, what exactly has caused Hays’ dreadful start? The two main culprits are his exit velocity and groundball rate.  In 2023, Hays had an average ex ..read more

How I See The Positional Crunch Sorting Out

The Baltimore Orioles have started 5-4 this ’24 season, with the offense struggling out of the gate. Offensively, the Norfolk Tides look like International League’s version of the 1927 Yankees – and probably a better lineup than the ’24 Oakland A’s. This juxtaposition of the O’s underachieving early on, while the Tides are murdering their AAA counterparts has reignited the conversations among Orioles fans of when these prospects should be arriving in Baltimore. With respect to the commentary of Jackson Holliday needing to go back to AAA to work on facing lefties; he’s currently wearing a Tides ..read more

While baseball fans across the United States were fast asleep early Wednesday morning, the Dodgers and Padres kicked off the 2024 MLB season in front of a crowd of just under 18,000 fans at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea. Examining Anthony Santander’s Future In Baltimore
Baltimore Sports and Life » Baltimore Orioles
by Rose Katz

The Baltimore Orioles have thus far been able to build a contender without worrying about losing any key players they developed. However, that could change following the 2024 season.  Anthony Santander, a member of the Orioles since 2017, is currently expected to become a free agent at the end of the season.   While Santander isn’t viewed as a pivotal part of the future in the same way as Adley Rutschman or Gunnar Henderson, it’s still worth exploring his production and the factors that could influence if he remains an Oriole.  Santander’s production in 2023 made him one of ..read more

Taking A Closer Look At Holliday Making The Opening Day Roster
Baltimore Sports and Life » Baltimore Orioles
by Rose Katz

As the Baltimore Orioles get closer to Opening Day, one of the biggest storylines of the preseason will be where Jackson Holliday begins 2024. The #1 prospect in baseball ended the 2023 season with a .941 OPS in the minors and got promoted all the way to AAA Norfolk before the end of the season. Holliday ending the year in AAA has seemingly made him a serious candidate for the Opening Day roster. However, it’s hardly a guarantee he’ll make it based on his experience and other possible infield options.  So, here’s a closer look at several factors that could impact this decision. &nb ..read more

2024 Orioles Bounceback and Regression Candidates
Baltimore Sports and Life » Baltimore Orioles

The last few weeks have been highly eventful in Birdland. The sale of the franchise to billionaire David Rubenstein and the acquisition of Corbin Burnes from the Milwaukee Brewers have seen the offseason turn from an utter disappointment into a booming success. There could still be more moves to come, but even if there aren’t, it’s hard to argue that the Orioles are not in an excellent position to repeat as AL East champions.  So, with spring training underway, it’s time to look internally at some of the players within the organization. While newcomers like Burnes and Craig Kimbrel will g ..read more
