Gunnar Henderson homered, drove in three runs and made a spectacular play at shortstop, and Dean Kremer equaled his career high with 10 strikeouts in the Orioles’ 6-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California on Wednesday. Orioles relief pitcher Cionel Pérez allowed a run on two hits in an inning in his first rehab assignment for Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday night. Pérez has been on the 15-day injured list with a strained right oblique muscle since March 31st. Pérez threw 13 pitches, 10 strikes, in the seventh inning in Norfolk’s 4-3 loss to Gwinnett. Bruce Zimmermann allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings, walking three and striking out two. What happened? Grayson Rodriguez allowed seven runs in 4 1/3 innings as the Orioles lost to the Los Angeles Angels, 7-4, on Tuesday night at Angels Stadium. Mike Trout homered against Rodriguez (3-1) to begin the Angels’ first. It was Trout’s first time batting leadoff since August 25th, 2020. Generations of Orioles fans have grown up without watching their team’s pitchers hit. The designated hitter was adopted by the American League for the 1973 season, and since 2022, it’s been used by the National League as well, making pitchers’ at-bats rare. Before that, pitchers batted ninth. If a runner was on base, they often would be asked to lay down a sacrifice bunt. Most weren’t accomplished hitters, but there were exceptions. What happened? Albert Suárez threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the second straight start, James McCann and Colton Cowser homered as the Orioles won their third straight game, 4-2, over the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium on Monday night. The Orioles placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 21st, because of a strained left calf muscle. Hays suffered the injury in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game against Kansas City. Hays is hitting .111 (5-for-45) with four RBIs. The Orioles selected the contract of catcher David Bañuelos from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Hays on the 26-man roster.
