Assuming you are using the same film brand/speed B&W film and developer combination, would there be any problems testing out a film in a smaller size to establish an effective film speed and then using it on a larger format?
For instance, my whole plate camera has holders that can be adapted from 3.25 x 4.25, 4x5 and 5x7 in addition to whole plate.
If I chose a film brand/speed that is available several of these sizes and use the same processing method with the same developer, can I test...

I have a question, I am calibrating 4x5 shutters, and I have the following doubt.
I have the reading of the shutter speeds in ms, it is easy to know if the shutter is slow or fast. What I can't do for lack of knowledge is to find the compensation for each stop. is there a formula for this or a spreadsheet that can be shared. thanks ..read more

A recent medical scare has finally convinced me that it's time to shed weight, both my own and that of my equipment, so I'm going to be offering up a variety of my larger, heavier gear over the next few months.
I got this very nice Repro-Claron in a barrel and put it into a Compound III-7 shutter that previously housed a 240mm Convertible Symmar; the cells fit the shutter with no modification. The glass is clean and clear with no obvious defects but have never used it so have no sample...

$500 + $70 shipping. Ries A 100 tripod.
The major problem with view camera use is using a lousy tripod. Just like having a sharp blade is the most important element in any saw, the tripod is the major factor in using a view camera
I've had this tripod for 3 years and have used it with 4x5 monorail cameras. It shows minimal signs of wear. It's very strong, and the legs can be reversed to utilize the rubber feet for indoor use. I've replaced the "staked" pins in the leg spread assembly...
