Evening all, I've finally found time to introduce myself, I am The Bird Lady, otherwise known as Jacqui. I live in West Sussex and I can get onto the South Downs through a gate in my back garden, which is handy for walking the dogs. Looking forward to taking part in the forum ..read more

I have a long narrow border which is full of daffs, this year I want to give it a good clear out so I want to dig out all the bulbs and replant them again later. Should I wait until September, when I would normally plant spring bulbs, or can I lift them once the foliage has died down? If I do the latter, how should I store the bulbs ..read more

For various reasons I'd like to buy a bag of compost with a fine texture, not the usual course stuff with larger bits and pieces and which clumps very easily.
Any recommendations please ..read more

Hi Peeps
I have some seedlings on an east facing windowsill.
Toms:
Cherry & some type of beefsteak.
Some bell peppers, small cucumbers and runner beans.
I have a cheap tomato greenhouse in my west facing garden, unheated.
Am I best leaving them on the windowsill or would they benefit from a bit more light in the greenhouse.
Would the low evening temperatures shock them too much?
All advice appreciated ..read more

Anyone been? Given that this is a family excursion rather than a romantic couples thing, is there plenty to keep us occupied for a weekend ..read more

I am hoping you garden gurus will have some ideas for me. I’ve just removed a Skimmia from this area and thinking what to replace it with. It’s West-facing but in dappled shade once the big apple tree (right of this) greens-up. The soil is on the clay side but not too heavy, and there are several large shrubs around it - a Photinia behind and a Japanese Cedar (type) tree to the left.
As it’s a bit dark green with the foliage around, the white blooms on the...

I wondered why there was no bird on the feeders today, then I saw why, a sparrowhawk eating its lunch in my back garden.
They're very beautiful and awesome at manoeuvring and all that, but I wish they wouldn't eat 'my' birds and leave bits for me to clear up ..read more
