Hi! I got this little white fir (apps say it's common juniper, etc.). But it looks pretty sad. If it's not dead, maybe there is something I can do to improve the little tree/shrub? Thank you ..read more

Making A Rolling Garden Stool.

My old garden stool works well enough, but its construction is not sturdy enough and the legs are becoming wonky. (Alternative version: its user needs to lose 20 pounds). Today I cut wood. I used the dimensions of the old stool, but added 2 inches to the height, to match my legs better, and two inches to the width for stability. It will have 6" castor wheels, which add 7" to the height, so I subtracted that. Here it is so far. The wood is stuff I found in the shed, mostly a 3/4 inch... Our Sunken Gardens

This is a beautiful community garden in our city. 100 + years ago when this site was on the outskirts, it was a trash dump. As the city grew around it, it was emptied and a garden area created. It has fish ponds, fountains, and lovely garden “rooms” featuring trees, shrubs, perennials, tropicals View attachment 31205 and annuals designed in various themes. It is truly a must visit site every year. I have the privilege of being acquainted with a few of the designers that have worked on... Our Sunken Gardens ..read more

Red the Squirrel - the poser.

I know the love hate relationship with these little guys all too well. Our red squirrels are half the size of the larger grey and black squirrels that most others have. Everyone has an opinion and a story about how much they dislike their destructive nature and the depths they go to remove them. This post is simply to show off this little poser. They are still wildlife, and cute looking scoundrels. The more squirrels I remove, the more come by from the forest. I can always tell a new... Red the Squirrel - the poser ..read more

View attachment 12503 Hi all, I have a lovely Rosa Zephirine Drouhin that is about 20 or 15 years old. I have been informed that it is too old & well-ensconced to move. (Truth be told, I was relieved to hear that). I love this ancient rose & would like to have one or more growing on my white rail fence. Any advice about how to propogate it will be very appreciated! Please excuse the messy stuff around that shed. I plan to repair the door & spruce the area up when spring arrives. I... How do I Propogate Rosa Zephirine Drouhin ..read more

For Those Who Avoid Hard Work...

Just came across this, so translating it into English and sharing it here. Because to us gardeners, it makes perfect sense. Shirkers, basically those who often try to avoid any type of laborious work. Always end up with half finished things, which never take them anywhere in life. For the quick comfort which they gain by avoiding work, is always very short lived. As the unfinished task which they avoided, continues to linger. Which they need to either keep on avoiding over and over again.... For Those Who Avoid Hard Work ..read more
