Dry your eyes, Scott (very sorry). Fulham have been relegated from the Premier League after just one season back in the top flight, no thanks to a home defeat by Burnley that saw the Clarets secure their top-flight status for another season.
Nothing is going to the wire for once, at least not at the wrong end of the table. All three relegated clubs have now been confirmed. Fulham will join Sheffield United and West Brom in the Championship next season. Getting back out of it will be another gruelling test.
3+ – Fulham’s defeat means all three/four teams have been relegated with as many as t ..read more

Gareth Bale gave his best all-round performance since returning on loan to Spurs with two goals in his side’s 4-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. [Insert golf joke here.]
The Welshman continued his recent resurgence by marking only his third league start of the season with the opening goal after just two minutes, poking home from close range.
He then set up Harry Kane for Tottenham’s second after 15 minutes before Lucas Moura made it 3-0 before half-time.
Bale then notched his second goal of the game with a superb curling shot to finish off a swift counter-attack ..read more

For 20 minutes of his latest pre-match press conference, Burnley manager Sean Dyche played it by the book. But then, when a cheeky reporter told him he looked like Mick Hucknell (which has to be an in-joke – no one would have the balls to say that to Dyche’s face otherwise) he warmed to the theme, and then unleashed a torrent of off-script BANTER that livened up the place:
Shades of David Brent, perhaps, but also more refreshing than 99% of press conferences.
Dyche also admitted he was a fan of Netflix costume drama Bridgerton:
Turns out Sean Dyche is a big Bridgerton fan #bbcfootball #burn ..read more

Burnley’s Ashley Barnes celebrates his winning penalty
Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Anfield on Thursday evening, putting an end to their 68-match unbeaten home record in the Premier League. Liverpool’s last league loss on their own ground was against Crystal Palace in April 2017.
Ashley Barnes’ 83rd-minute penalty, awarded after the Burnley striker was brought down by goalkeeper Alisson, decided the contest after Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to get on the scoresheet for the fourth straight Premier League game.

We got to this incredible place. He looked over the rim for two minutes, and said ‘Alright, I’ve seen it, let’s go.’
I said to him, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me?’ He just looked at me and said, ‘I’ve seen it, what else have I got to see, I’m just looking at this big hole.’
– Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan recalls Sean Dyche’s thoughts on the majestic, awe-inspiring Grand Canyon.
Refreshing honesty from Dyche, and a slap in the face to hopeless romantics everywhere. No doubt a visit to see Monet’s water lillies in Paris would elicit a similar response: “It’s just paint. It’s not exactly ..read more

Everton passed a mediocrity milestone on Saturday afternoon by slumping to yet another loss on their travels, this time against Burnley at Turf Moor.
The Clarets went into the match looking for their first win in 12 matches and sure enough, Sam Allardyce’s miserable side were the ones to provide it – their sixth away defeat on the bounce.

Now there’s a headline you don’t see very often: Sean Dyche has been forced to deny that eats worms.
The Burnley manager was incriminated by former teammate Soren Andersen recently, with the ex-Bristol City striker speculating that Dyche might have a gravelly voice because he regularly used to eat earthworms during training sessions.
Andersen made the claims during an appearance on Danish podcast Fodboldministeriet:
He had exactly the same voice when he was younger. Maybe the voice comes from eating earthworms, because every time we trained, he used to eat worms ..read more
