Former Claret Dean Marney has been back with the club coaching at under-16 level but has left to take charge of the under-18s at League Two club Salford City. The news surfaced last weekend but Salford have now confirmed that Marney has joined them as their lead under-18 coach. Marney said on making the move: “I am looking forward to the opportunity, there are some really good players at the club, some of whom have already made it through to the first team, so hopefully there will be more to follow soon. “I have already taken a few sessions with the lads and they went well, the team trained re ..read more

Central League Cup winners, Lancashire Senior Cup finalists and now the under-21s will be hoping to end the season with a flourish and finish it with a fifth place finish in the Professional Development League. The first of the cups is won, the second final will be played early next season, so it is now a matter of concentrating on the last two league games against Coventry and Barnsley, the former next to bottom in the table and the latter one place above us. Whatever the results from these games, we cannot move any further up the table but we can drop a potential two places. As things stand ..read more

The U18 Professional Development League comes to an end for 2023/24 over the next two days and we now know the winners and the runners-up in the two groups and we also know that the Clarets have finished in fourth place no matter the result of their final game. It was a case of late goals for Burnley that gave us victory at Peterborough in our final away game last week and Ryan Tioffo, returning from that horrific injury we reported a couple of weeks ago, came on as a substitute to win it for us. He scored with a header on 72 minutes to break the deadlock but it looked set to end in a 1-1 draw ..read more

Tomorrow’s final home game of the season against Coventry City in the Professional Development League has been given a change of venue. There was some confusion earlier in the week with the fixtures continuing to show Leyland but the club reporting it was going ahead at Gawthorpe; in the end it’s neither and tomorrow afternoon’s game will be played at Victory Park, home of Chorley F.C. Kick of remains at 1 p.m. and admission is now free of charge. Follow UpTheClarets ..read more

Burnley fell 2-0 down against Derby County tonight at Pride Park in the final of the Central League Cup but came storming back to lift the trophy in a 3-2 win. A trialist gave the home side the lead as early as the seventh minute, and things didn’t look too good for us when they doubled their advantage in first half stoppage time through Niall McAndrew. We didn’t go into the break two behind though; two minutes after Derby’s second we pulled one back when Murray Campbell dived in to head home after a Joe Westley header came back off the bar. Buoyed by that goal, we turned things in our favour ..read more

Andy Farrell takes his under-21s to Pride Park tomorrow night to take on Derby County in the final of the Central League Cup. We go into the game in mixed form but boosted by last Friday’s 2-2 draw at Watford in the Professional Development League when both Ackeme Francis-Burrell and Joe Westley were on the mark for the Clarets. Winners in 2016 Our opponents have had a difficult season in Premier League 2, finishing bottom of the 26-team league, but they had a good result in their most recent game, also played at Pride Park ending a run of four defeats with a 3-0 win against Everton with goals ..read more

Burnley held at Watford

Despite twice going in front, the under-21s had to settle for a point this afternoon from a 2-2 draw against Watford at Vicarage Road. We went in front with an Ackeme Francis-Burrell goal after just eleven minutes but the lead last just six minutes before Michael Adu-Poku drew the home side level. It was all square at half time but seven minutes into the second half we were back in front when Joe Westley scored his first goal since returning from his loan at Fylde. But with twenty minutes remaining, Watford drew level again when Laken Torres took advantage of a mix up at the back. That’s how i ..read more
