Average Weight For American Women (And A Few Other Countries) Surprising!

The weights are broken down into categories by age, race and Hispanic/non Hispanic. What surprises me is that I thought the numbers would have been lower for each category. I'm also surprised that my weight is lower than what's shown for my age and race. Average Weight of Women in America I think their survey sample should have included way more women, especially when you consider they compared us with women in other countries. But the weights do seem more realistic than the weight... Read more ..read more

It's winter, and so I have a gut!

That used to be true, but over the last ten years or so I'm finding that winter has less to do with it. I'm 6', 1" and when I was working, I weighed 185 pounds, give or take. Last time I weighed in I was 205 pounds, and I can't seem to lose weight. My jeans are complaining and I'm starting to look pregnant. I know this has to do with my metabolism, my age, my eating habits and beer, but I find myself at a loss as to how to stop the weight gain. Telling myself to exercise control is not... How Long Would it Take a Reasonably Healthy Early-70s (Me) to Walk a Mile?

Hoping any of our frequent walkers here on SF can answer this question. When I look online, it always throws up a bunch of confusing charts, etc. I use neither a cane, walking stick, or walker luckily and it would be on nice level residential sidewalks all the way, if that makes a difference. (The walk back from the store or library I'm assuming would have to go a little slower since I'd be loaded down with stuff.) Thanks for any info ..read more

Why do I care anymore about weight?

I am not overweight at least not according to my doctors. I am about 5 ft 2 inches tall and I weight about 121 lbs. I used to weigh 110 lbs. in my thirties. Anyways, I am always trying to stay at about 120 lbs. I walk a lot since I don't drive. And hubby and I eat balanced meals. But sometimes, I overeat and get up to 125 lbs. And I know eventually, I'll get back down to 121 lbs. But it really bothers me. I feel like I look gross at 125 lbs. And this sounds weird, it is weird, but... Read more ..read more

Portion Control and Eating Once the Package is Open

This is my problem. In addition to many other things. But my portion control isn't good and once a package of some snack or sugar type item is open, I eat it. I'm also clearly not good at leaving that stuff at the grocery store. I agree with the mention in another thread that things like granola bars are really candy bars. Bel Vita, Cliff bars. I'll buy those for work since I eat breakfast before 5am and sometimes don't make it to lunch until close to noon, so I keep things in my work bag... Read more ..read more

It seems like THEY are out to sabotage your efforts!

THEY(you know who they are) always seem to hold your weight control efforts in low regard, and constantly presenting calorie laden "challenges" to your determination. The "let's eat out" request, that you know is going to cost you a 1000 calorie meal unless you just order water and napkins. Or the "come over and sample my latest home-brew", which you know you'll barely be able to walk home from. It's tough being flesh & blood, and knowing that fat cells are the only part of your... Just re-discovered: Mayonnaise vs Butter
Senior Forums » Weight Loss & Fitness

I wasn't sure where to post this- Food & Drinks, Health, or here in Weight Loss & Fitness. My focus is on lessening caloric intake, while continuing to enjoy eating . I have been avoiding mayonnaise but yet still indulging with butter. What was I thinking? I had heard that Mayonnaise has much less saturated fat than butter(1.5 g per tablespoon versus 7.3 g in butter), but it didn't sink in, until today. With mayonnaise having only about a fifth of the saturated fat that... Read more ..read more
