As noted in my other thread, ~35MPH winds with a Gazelle tent in soft sand while salt water fishing. My normal stakes work great in "hard" soil conditions but, were useless in soft sand.
What are my better stake options for soft sand. Lashing my tent to my pickup sort of worked but, it was less than ideal for many reasons.
TIA,
Sid

I spent the past weekend on the beach in Galveston, Tx saltwater fishing. When I arrived late Friday, the wind was blowing ~35MPH. Needless to say, setting up my Gazelle tent was a real challenge!
A trim profile "low" tent or Bivvy sack would have been much better. I really didn't need the tent at the time, just some quick shut eye so, I was ready and refreshed at Sunrise!
What are the better Bivvy options that will keep out blowing sand and rain while still being easy to setup in high...

In Anza Borrego desert, camp fires have to be in a metal container with a bottom. Looking for creative ideas.
What I want
- something dual purpose
- collapsible would be great, but not required if its very useful as something else
- Low walls
Ideas I've found
- washing machine drum (too big, walls too high)
- turkey pot (pretty good idea, but bulky)
- Wash tub from home depot (galvanized - I've read this is bad on health ..read more

This was made from parts left over from various home improvement projects. Rather than spending $20 for 4" ABS end caps I just used 1/4" ABS plastic sheeting that I already had on hand. I put one fill/drain spout on each end so I could siphon from which ever side was lower. The spouts are just 1" PVC female threaded couplings with threaded plugs that were shaped to fit the curvature of the 4"ABS pipe.
To siphon water I used a hose and black plastic beverage tap from my...

Hi all! Didn't want to steal JonnyS's thread even though they are pretty similar. My friend and I will be Overlanding in Baja from May to June. I think some kind of awning/shade would really be nice to get out of the sun. Considering a freestanding shelter type or building one from the side (or more likely the back) of my runner.
Any thoughts on freestanding v truck-side and/or pics of what you all use could be a great help!

I've got a GE GPV10FSNSB 12v, compressor fridge in my travel trailer. It has a single temperature control with a few settings, including "off", "cool", "cold", and "coldest."
On the "cold" setting I encountered this after two days of camping:
At this point interior refrigerator temperature was +9C (way too hot), and the freezer was at -20C (way too cold).
Countless fridge reviews mention & show the same problems, but no solutions. GE customer...

For those fellow Wildernest owners (or future owners) who are in need of some replacment parts, I've done quite a bit of research (I'm restoring a used '96 Wildernest for a Tacoma x-cab) and I've got some info on spare parts:
1. Bulb seal. This is probably one of the first parts to go as it is pretty fragile. If your lid doesn't seal properly when you close it, water will get in and a wet tent stored wet equals a rotten/dead tent! The best match to the original bulb seal from Wildernest...

Seems like a reasonable price for something that I could find a ton of uses for around camp and beyond. Anybody got any hands- on time?
3.5 Gallon RinseKit PRO Portable Shower
The 3.5 gallon PRO is our first battery-pressurized model, boasting a consistent, high pressure spray. The battery pressurization is not only strong, but makes the PRO easy to use - simply pour water in the top fill cap, press the power button and spray! The PRO is perfect for avid surfers...

While doing some research the past few weeks, looking at my options for cooking pans i came across the Southwest Disk pans. I went ahead and ordered one and it arrived last week. The pan is awesome i cooked on it the first night i got it to try it out and think it is the perfect option for large group camping. But fast forward to this week i was looking at options for a stand of some sort to hold the pan but also the burner and 1lb propane tank i use. I ended up finding an outdoor plant...

I have 2 diesel heaters in pelican style
Cases, when using a rooftop tent where are you placing your diesel heaters? Last time out I just set it on the roof of the truck. I’d like a better solution. Where are you placing yours ..read more
