Week 19: A new week means a fresh start. First thing Monday morning I took Bob to the vet. He was not happy with me and he didn't look at me all day! He came around though. That night the bleeding stopped, then over the next couple of days it started again. Prayers that it heals and his procedure helped. While Bob was away at the vet, I got to work replanting! This time I switched sides, laid down the cardboard and spread out the compost all over. I planted pumpkins (again) and broccoli. Neither for any particular reason other than to get something in the ground - well on the ground I guess ..read more

Week 17 & 18: Volleyball tryouts went great! Jayla hey had this on JV and they already had their first scrimmage, no spectators were allowed due to Covid. They didn't win, but did great from what I heard! She now practices every day, add that to the list of things to do. 1-2 games a week!  Now she can't sleep all day - being a teen is so hard! They moved the first day of school back to September, but they are still continuing with sports, while practicing safety procedures. On the farm, work was still being done, a little slower now, but still getting done. We have a tree that fell o ..read more

Week 16: Chicken sitting time! Stinky little things lol! But also so stinking cute! The girls loved them and were so helpful with them as well. It was a nice little sneak peek into chicken life and I couldn't be more ready. Sometimes through this process, it's so hard to have patience. But, then I have to remember it's much easier to do it right the first time, than to rush it and spend more time fixing it or even lose the chickens from doing it wrong. This one I'm pretty sure sneaks out at night and plays in a rock band. They also made their debut on my first TikTok video. Yup, I joined Tik ..read more

Week 15: A rather short week, we stayed in the city for a bit longer so that we could stay a bit later and take some stuff to the dump. Soooo exciting I know - don't be jealous. There is lots of junk that needs to be taken off the farm that was collected over the years before I got here and unfortunately the job can only be done on Saturdays. As I said, lots of junk was removed as well as cutting more limbs out of the way to make parking, since we currently park in the middle of the yard. If I haven't said it before, let me tell you what a workout moving branches can be. I was sore for a coupl ..read more

Week 14: The chipper has come out to play! One of the other things we will have on the farm are compost piles. The goal is to not have to need trash service, so we will burn the cardboard and paper products and we will compost the appropriate items. We will use wood chips from the chipper to add to the compost piles. We cleared more land and was able to start the wood chip pile! We had outside help this week. Another guest came to the fam and wanted to do farm chores! Melinda helped A LOT with moving branches, cutting them down and even wood chipping! (More on her visit in another blog.) Who ..read more

Week 12 The fuel injection pump is re-installed and the tractor is running again! But wait, we have to fix a flat tire again! If it's not one thing it's another around here. Fix-a-flat to the rescue! I’m happy to report it has not gone flat since. Now that the tractor is in commission again it's time to get ready for guests. Time to bush hog!  In true Jackie fashion, I got hurt today and not in a normal way. It was me and the tractor vs. the pear tree. I cleared this same tree branch 3 times and then for some reason the next time I went the other direction and didn't have the same luck. I ..read more

Week 10 & 11: Does your mind ever get full of too much information and you just want to share it all with someone else, just so they can fill your pain, too? That's what the next two weeks were like! It's all about the fuel injection pump. Another week of fixing Ruby - did I mention she has a name now?! That's right, Ruby it is! Thank you to all who helped name her! Of course something needed to be fixed and this week it wasn't a simple fix. It was a take it off, take it apart, clean it, replace parts and put it back together fix. I will say there is something so satisfying about cleaning ..read more

Week 9 Anyone else have more chainsaws than they do hands? Apparently you need one you can get dirty, one that extends and then another one for looks I guess. How are you supposed to not get it "dirty"?!? This week was spent cutting down branches in the path of the tractor and moving branches that were cut down. Nothing like moving branch after branch to remind you how out of shape you are! Next on the list, pulling trees from my garden area. But first, let's get a flat tire, because we have nothing else to do right?! And of course let's be in the field when it happens so we can roll the tire ..read more

Week 6 & 7 were spent in Oklahoma City, taking care of somethings. Week 8: Y'all I really want a garden! I feel like an impatient little kid. But, thankfully this week we were able to start the process, even though there is still so much to do before I can plant. I have found where I want it to be and got the tractor and bush hog out and started bush hogging. I want it to be about 100 x 100 square feet. I have never grown anything, so naturally I need to go really big, because that's just what I do. I'm going to try the no till way because, why not?!? I'm going to start with some pumpkins ..read more

I'm adding flashlight holder to my resume!

Week 5: Anyone else feel like a professional flashlight holder or is that just me? We spent another week fixing things. We finally got the washer fixed so we can do laundry now. My help was holding the flashlight. There is also a leak under the bathroom sink that a small container has been catching the water in. We drove an hour to get parts to fix it, replaced the parts, and it still leaks. So again we drove an hour to get more parts, replaced the parts, and it still leaks! We ended up replacing the container with bigger a container because the problem is in the wall (insert annoyed face). Ag ..read more
