As you amble from the roadside to the foot of a popular crag, it might not be uncommon to see a jumble of colourful campervans of different shapes and sizes. Campervans facilitate spontaneous trips to the countryside, offer a sense of freedom and cheap trips away, all synonymous with the interests of the ‘typical’ climber. It is no wonder that many climbers, including the likes of Alex Honnold, have an accompanying home on wheels. The fold out campervan design and build by @fibionaccifuton is ingenious and stands out from the crowd through its orginality yet extremely practical nature. When looking at the photos of the build I was instantly amazed by the way all elements folded out, but it wasn’t until I looked closer that I could really see how clever this build really was. You need to treat rust on your van, even if you are not planning on converting it into a campervan. This is because rust only gets worse and can eventually adversely impact the integrity of your vehicle.
Often with DIY conversions to keep costs down vehicle age or milleage becomes a compromise. In this case, it’s likely that rust patches will exist on the van body or chassis. Body and floor rust is essential to remove to protect your conversion but equally rust on your axel, engine, chassis or wheels will lead to mechanical failure and is still important to address.
