Hey Friends! Happy New Year! I know it’s been forever since I’ve written a blog but guess what?! I started a podcast in October and I’m super proud of myself for pushing fear aside and answering God’s call. So here it goes, in January of 2020, God woke me up out of my sleep not once but twice. His voice was clear as day – he told me to start a podcast. Now you know I had many conversations with Him telling Him He must be speaking to the wrong person. I am not the one for this life. Well, fast forward a few months and God did not leave me alone about what He wanted me to do. I knew it was God ..read more

Well here we are it’s the middle of August, we are filled with zoom calls, emails, and tons of information from the school systems about their back to school plans. Every single parent I’ve spoken to is stressed out and praying they make the right decisions for their child and family. Our school system has chosen to go hybrid- meaning the children will be divided into cohorts. Group A will be going to school one week while Group B will do interactive learning at home. They will alternate weeks until the middle of October and the school system will then re-evaluate to continue or change the mod ..read more

Dear Educators and Allies,

It’s your time to shine! It’s your time to truly make a change for the better in the lives of ALL your students. First, let’s step back. The brutal murders of Black people in America is among the worst pandemics to hit the country. The brutal murder of George Floyd still makes me tear up to this day. Knowing that someone could actually do that and have his colleagues stand around with their hands in their pockets like it’s another day on the job is gut wrenching to say the least. I hate the fact that he had to die. One thing I do know is that George did not die in vain and that his name will g ..read more

Dear White People,

I’m scared. I have a Black son who I’m raising in America. I’m scared. I can’t look the other way anymore. I’m scared. I’m scared that when my cute, lovable and extremely friendly tween son you’ve known his whole life turns into that big teenager who you’re scared of when you see him on the street. Will you call the cops on him? I’m scared for every time my black husband and son leave the comfort of our house. I’m scared for when my son gets his license. I’m too scared to let him go to your house. I’m scared to let him walk in our neighborhood alone. I’m scared. White people you ask what you c ..read more

Just say Yes! Our Mommy/Daughter Weekend…
Stay at home mom? Yeah Right!

Can we all agree that the teen years are some of the most challenging years of a child and (parent of said child’s) life?! So when I read on @jenhatmaker’s Instagram page that she did a Yes Trip with her 13 year old daughter, I knew that I had to follow suit! (A Yes trip is one that you take with your 13 year old child anywhere you’d like. You can do a hotel stay in your town, a day together, a weekend, or a big vacation. It’s your trip, you decide. And the answer to everything is “Yes!” I say no a lot. But during this time away if you want ice cream for breakfast, lunch, and dinner- YES! You ..read more

Dear Moms, Aunties, Spiritual Moms, Pastors, Teachers, and Caregivers, I know it’s hard but can we sit down and literally take a seat? Ok, now that you’re sitting, what have you done today or this year, or plan to do this year to take care of yourself? It doesn’t have to be something big or over the top like a kid free vacation with your significant other (God knows that’s what I need), or with a friend, or alone. It could be a massage, wake up early to pray, exercise, eat healthier, get a mani/ pedi, drink more water, loose that extra weight, gain extra weight, eat that candy bar you want, ea ..read more

Anyone who has children and travels with them knows the difference between a vacation and a trip. For the unfamiliar, a vacation is when you go away alone or with your significant other without children. Our family just got back from a bucket list trip across the globe to Hong Kong. Hong Kong is New York City on steroids. It has the best shopping, restaurants, street food, and overall attractions for every age group. If you have any sort of anxiety in crowds, this city is NOT for you! There are 7.3 million people in Hong Kong. Every where you turn there are people. There is absolutely no such ..read more

You know you’re getting old when you get totally excited about new kitchen gadgets! My good friend has been raving about the air fryer for the longest. Since I’m such an easy sell, I instantly bought the air fryer on sale for $40 when I saw it at Costco. What is an air-fryer you ask? According to Wikipedia, An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that cooks by circulating hot air around the food using the convection mechanism. A mechanical fan circulates the hot air around the food at high speed, cooking the food and producing a crispy layer via the Maillard effect. Here’s a picture of my beauty ..read more

It’s a New Year, Now What?

Now that it’s the New Year, what are you going to do about it? Everyone talks about New Years resolutions, words to live by, habits to break, exercising, moving on, being your best self. No one tells you how to do all of these things. How do YOU do all of these things? The last several years, I’ve carved out a day with my daughter’s during their Christmas vacation and we’ve created vision boards. Before we start with our new boards, it’s always fun to look at our vision boards from previous years to see what we’ve accomplished and what we haven’t. We create vision boards with words and picture ..read more
