One more look back before we look ahead. Defending World Series champions. It’s still hard to believe that happened. But it did. Adolis Garcia carried this team on his back through the playoffs, turned it over to one swing of the bat by Corey Seager, some great glove work by Evan Carter, and a bullpen that arrived just in the nick of time. And, unbelievably as it sounds, for the first time in the fifty-two-year-history of the Texas Rangers, they come into the season as defending World Series champions, with an opportunity to do what is so hard to do. Win back-to-back. The last team to do it wa ..read more

Of course, things like the roster and the lineup and the rotation and the bullpen matter. But nobody goes to a Rangers game to see the players. They go for the food. This year, the Rangers introduce a boatload of new concession items for us to stuff our collective mouths with. The biggest news is the opening of a Whataburger near Section 105. Arlington Eats, which is a rotating restaurant in Section 101 will go from two restaurants in rotation to seven.  Hurtado Barbecue will be back in Section 141, and now also in section 201, with a new menu item, the Milanesa Taco: chicken fried briske ..read more

Seager and Jung return.

Like a machine, Corey Seager returns from surgery and months of not stepping into a batter’s box against live pitching in game competition and all he does is go 2-for-2.  Josh Jung didn’t skip a beat, either. He injured his calf within fifteen minutes of the first practice of spring training. His two- to three-week recovery period turned out to be five weeks. But, in his first at-bat of the spring, he singles. Suddenly, as the Rangers close out another year in Surprise, Arizona, the Rangers appear to be at full strength again, with two more practice games (Monday and Tuesday at The Shed a ..read more

Time for the highly anticipated, annual Rangers Rounding 3rd predictions. In the ten years of making predictions, we have been one hundred percent correct. This year will prove to be— Sorry, due to a clerical error, the end of the first paragraph was cut off. It should have read: In the past ten years of making predictions, we have been one hundred percent correct zero percent of the time. Undaunted, we march forward with this year’s predictions. Rangers add Lorenzen.

He’s not Jordan Montgomery. He’s not Dylan Cease. But the Rangers picked up another starter yesterday. He’s Michael Lorenzen. He’s a thirty-two-year-old right-handed pitcher who is also an outfielder. One would assume with Carter, Langford, Garcia, Taveras, and Jankowski, the Rangers aren’t looking for the lifetime .233 hitter with seven career home runs to battle for an outfield job. He’s also been a starter and a reliever, having appeared in sixty-nine games as a starter and two-hundred-seventy-three out of the bullpen. As a starter, he’s 23-25 with a .441 ERA. As a reliever, his ERA is 3.7 ..read more

They come home for two more practice games, these against Boston, on Monday and Tuesday, take Wednesday off, then it’s off to defend their world series crown. Come on, next Thursday, come on. ***** NO GAME TODAY ..read more

In a surprise to absolutely nobody, Nathan Eovaldi will be the Rangers opening day starter. Every pitch he throws this year will come with Rangers fans flinching. Please don’t get hurt, please don’t get hurt, please don’t get hurt. The thirty-three-year-old righthander spent some time on the IL last season and, with only five able-bodied starters, the Rangers can ill-afford to lose him for any stretch this season.  He did make twenty-five starts in 2023, winning twelve and losing five. The Rangers need him to be the workhorse this year as well. Eovaldi was the Red Sox opening day starter ..read more

Scratch off Sampson.

Remember when Adrian Sampson was a part of the Rangers rotation? It was back when Jon Daniels was the general manager and talent evaluation didn’t exist. Back in 2019, Sampson started fifteen games for the Rangers. He went 3-7 with a 6.41 ERA. Under Daniels, that was considered an ace.  He didn’t surface again in the major leagues until 2021 with the Cubs, where he was actually an effective pitcher, starting five games and pitching in a total of ten appearance.  But he was banished to the minor leagues in 2023. Now, he’s back with the Rangers trying to make their threadbare rotation ..read more
