Hi folks, I'm not sure how active he would have been on RW in recent years - so I don't know if any current users had any connection with him, but he certainly spent plenty of time here in the past. Sadly swittle (aka Steve Whittle) passed away at some point over the last few days. There's a bit more info here: https://www.fetcheveryone.com/blog/3/2024/2/480036 Best wishes to you all, Ian ..read more

Struggling on the long run
Runner's World

Hello all, I am currently training for a half marathon and really finding the long runs on a Sunday really tough. I start them feeling quite fatigued and then usually complete 10 miles at a really slow pace (11 min miles). I don’t feel out of breath but just incredibly tired. I do parkruns on a Saturday so not sure if that’s a good idea the day before a long run. I notice that quite a lot of runners also do this. My current training plan is (25 miles a week): Mon: rest Tues: 5 miles (4 at half marathon target pace) Wed: Gym Thur: 10k slow Fri: Gym Sat: Parkrun Sun: Longrun Does anyone else ..read more

Hi there, I am currently doing a dissertation on mental health in long distance runners. If anyone would be willing to anonymously answer some questionnaires and then keep a training diary for a week, then do a couple of more questionnaires, please get in contact. I would really appreciate any responses! Eligibility is to be a long distance runner, who trains frequently (4-5 times a week).   ..read more

Vo2 max on Garmin watch
Runner's World

My vo2 max on my Garmin watch seems very low given my fitness. I have been told this can because the maximum heart rate zones might be set at a wrong level. So would setting these to a higher beats per minute improve the vo2 max or lower it still?I can't quite work it out! Thanks ..read more

Non-fixed-route events
Runner's World

Hello, I’ve posted this in the events forum but haven’t had any bites so thought I’d try here. I was hoping somebody could point me towards a website or resource where I can find no-fixed-route running events (usually trail running) please? If people want to list them or drop links here then that would be fantastic too. Ideally in the Peak District area and ideally anything up to half marathon distance. 3 such formats examples would be: - where competitors have a fixed period of time to get round as many waypoints as possible in their own chosen order. Or similarly, where there is no time lim ..read more
