Wondering about a “Bill Carr” rod

Just bought a Horrocks-Ibbotson -"The Bill Carr" model double-built fly rod... wondering if you could help me understand this rod a bit better... It has a green Horrocks-Ibbotson rectangular decal, from Utica NY, and includes the words Hexi-Super-Cane. The bamboo has a dark brown, almost milk-chocolate color and the windings are a deep forest green. The rod is in great shape with all guides in place and the windings are superb. 1. When was the rod manufactured? 2. Who was Bill Carr that... Wondering about a “Bill Carr” rod ..read more

Per my prior posts on replacing an older Rio Trout LT used with my Sage SLT 480, I purchased the forum suggestion of an Orvis Pro Trout smooth as the replacement. I had a chance to lawn cast the pairing today, and was quite pleased with the pleasant feel and performance the OPT on this rod. It loaded surprising well in close and easily reached out to 50+ on just a pick up and back out. I expect it'll do better on the water, and the next step will be a few casts on local pond. I've always... Orvis Pro Trout ..read more

I have been fly fishing off and on since I was about 14 (45 now). I started out with a combo from wal mart that i bought for liek $20 and used that thing for a while. After i grew up a little and got on my own I started buying some better stuff. Right now I have 2 main rods that I use a lot an older Echo Carbon 7' 3wt and a Mystic Reaper 9' 5wt. Both are paired with Cheekey reels that I really like. I just recently got a "budget" rod set up for a Saltwater trip. It is a Reddington Wrangler...
