The Classics are done, the GT season is upon us, and so it is once again time for us to compile our own teams for the pursuit of the pink. Your goal is to get as many points (according to the system at CQranking.com : points available for all finishers according to their GC position, top 10 in each stage and on points and mountains classifications, and for the overnight leader) during the Giro. But you must choose 8 men who are taking part in the event, and each rider has a price which is their CQ score for the 12 months to 28th April (a download from CQ will confirm and lock in those prices ..read more

Road quick release / QR / skewers, light vs 'normal'

Hey, I’ve just found a crack on my QR from Roval wheels (internal cam, housing has a crack, probably I was using too much force), and I need ones (or at least one ), S-Works Tarmac SL6 frame, rim brakes. Can you feel difference between ‘standard’ ones that weights >100g and light ones? (35-50g?) I’m not talking about the weight but clamping force (affecting bike handling etc.) according to some tests, those light external cam QRs can be even 30-40% weaker than internal cam QRs ..read more

La Vuelta Femenina 2024 (April 28th-May 5th)

It's almost time for the first Grand Tour-ish event of the season. La Vuelta Femenina started its life as a crit race in Madrid 9 years ago and has steadily grown since then. The 10th edition will have a record 8 stages, which include an opening TTT, 3 assumed bunch sprints, 1 stage in rolling terrain which could end in a couple of different ways, and 3 uphill finishes that will determine the overall winner. The recent editions of the race have been dominated by Annemiek van Vleuten, but with having retired, a new champion will be crowned this year. Although she's had her troubles so far th ..read more

Can Pogacar win the double?

With his last race before the Giro done, it's time to ask the question. Can he pull it off? With Vingegaard injured and either not doing the Tour at all or doing it with a subpar preparation the door seems wide open. But the double is always deceiving. Most thought Contador could do it in 2011, so we did with Froome in 2018. And even Contador in 2015 and Quintana in 2017 were given a chance. Yet at the end none of them came particularly close. Will history repeat itself, or will Pogacar rewrite the historybooks once more ..read more

2024 Liège-Bastogne-Liège Femmes, approx. 4 hour sort of monument, April 21st

It's time to finish off this year's Ardennes campaign with Liège-Bastogne-Liège. Although known as La Doyenne (The old lady), the women's version has the shortest history out of the three races this week, having had its first edition in 2017 compared to 1998 for Flèche Wallonne and 2001 for the first official Amstel Gold Race. Also due to length restrictions, the race is actually rather a Bastogne-Liège, which pretty much covers the last 140+ km of the men's race, after Côte de Stockeu was finally added to the route last year. The race can explode as soon as they hit the climbs, but it prob ..read more

GXP bottom bracket "almost" fits, what now?

I'm replacing a SRAM GXP bottom bracket BSA (English BC 1.37x24T) 68mm wide with a aftermarket brand that is supposed to fit both 68mm and 73mm. However, there are a few issues with the width that I can't figure out. (1) The new sleeve between the two bearing cups is 60mm when the old one was 55mm (2) The length of the threads on the new cups is about 5mm deeper (longer) than the old cups (3) The new sleeve has a ridge on both ends that mates with the cups and fixes the width (4) The old sleeve only has a ridge that mates with the drive side cup and slides into the other side but the new non ..read more
