Two Surry County officials were recently recognized by the Association of North Carolina Boards of Health, honoring the two for their “extraordinary contributions to public health,” according to the association. The association gave three statewide awards, two of which came home to Surry County. The two awards went to Eddie Jordan, chair of the Surry County Board of Health, and Mark Willis, director of the Surry County of Office Abuse Recovery. Years of planning and development will reach fruition Monday when a new section of the Granite City Greenway officially is welcomed into Mount Airy’s family of recreational facilities. The grand opening for the Ararat River North Extension of the greenway is scheduled for 10 a.m. at Riverside Park, to feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony. DOBSON — A nursing student at Surry Community College has become one of only 10 individuals in America to be awarded an A Nurse I Am Scholarship, and its first-ever local recipient since the program began in 2007. The Market Street Arts and Entertainment District that has operated in downtown Mount Airy since 2020 is being taken to another level, including an expansion of its schedule to seven days per week. The Mount Airy Downtown Inc.
