BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB/WNWN) - A preliminary hearing was held in Calhoun County District Court on Monday for a Coldwater man who is facing sex crime charges in connection with alleged 2007 incidents in Homer. 28-year-old Brad Allen Risner has been charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. MARENGO TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – A semi that was hauling car parts caught fire on Sunday on westbound I-94 near the rest area in Calhoun County’s Marengo Township. The Michigan State Police reports the semi which caught fire and the trailer became engulfed in flames. West bound traffic on I-94 was shut down briefly before the left shoulder and the left lane were partially opened for traffic. No injuries were reported. TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB/WNWN) - A Coldwater resident was killed late Sunday afternoon in a crash involving a sedan and a semi on southbound I-69 near N-60 in Calhoun County's Tekonsha Township. Michigan State Police report the crash took place at about 5:00 p.m. as the semi was traveling south bound while the sedan was traveling north in the south bound lanes of the interstate. COLDWATER, MI (WTVBWNWN) – A Quincy area man was arraigned on 14 counts on Thursday in Branch County District Court for alleged crimes that involved stalking, indecent exposure and the illegal use of computers. 34-year-old Zachery James Toth was charged in three cases following a Branch County Sheriff’s Department investigation. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports 47-year-old Casper Brown was shot and killed by police in an attached garage which brought the four hour standoff in the 20000 block of Division Drive to a conclusion. It was the 43rd person to die in Calhoun County after testing positive for the virus. UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) - Michigan State Police say a medical situation which apparently took the life of a man Wednesday morning may have led to him driving his vehicle into a stop sign in Union City. The vehicle was found resting against the stop sign at about 6:00 a.m. at Broadway and High Street. MARSHALL, MI (WTVB/WNWN) - Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert says police were justified when they shot a 30-year-old man at his home in the 700 block of West Hanover Street in Marshall on July 10.
