ATHENS, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – The Calhoun County Office of Community Development says a free residential scrap tire collection will take place on next Wednesday, September 9 at the Athens Township Office in Athens. This collection is open to Calhoun County residents only who want to dispose of unwanted passenger vehicle tires. MARENGO TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB/WNWN) – A semi that was hauling car parts caught fire on Sunday on westbound I-94 near the rest area in Calhoun County’s Marengo Township. The Michigan State Police reports the semi which caught fire and the trailer became engulfed in flames. West bound traffic on I-94 was shut down briefly before the left shoulder and the left lane were partially opened for traffic. No injuries were reported. Coldwater resident dies in I-69 crash with semi near Tekonsha exit

TEKONSHA TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB/WNWN) - A Coldwater resident was killed late Sunday afternoon in a crash involving a sedan and a semi on southbound I-69 near N-60 in Calhoun County's Tekonsha Township. Michigan State Police report the crash took place at about 5:00 p.m. as the semi was traveling south bound while the sedan was traveling north in the south bound lanes of the interstate. UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) - Michigan State Police say a medical situation which apparently took the life of a man Wednesday morning may have led to him driving his vehicle into a stop sign in Union City.
