Who knew that watching Phil Foden & Kalvin Phillips watching grassroots goals would be so charming. It’s like a football Celebrity Gogglebox, and Pies approves – not wishing to sound like my grandmother, but they are such nice, well-spoken young men. Also, it’s coming home. Premier League highlights: Man Utd 1-2 Leicester City – Foxes hand title to Man City

“Knights, new plan! The one who kills the ogre, will be named champion! Have at him!” Could Leicester do it on a mild Tuesday night at Old Trafford? Yes, they could. Leicester’s 2-1 win handed the Premier League title to Man City, and also reignited their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League. United needed to avoid defeat to delay City’s title celebrations for at least two more days, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to field a weakened line-up proved costly – although, let’s not kid ourselves, City were always going to be champions. Champions League highlights: Man City 2-0 PSG (4-1 agg) – Neymar and co. self-destruct again

Riyad Mahrez scored twice as Man City reached the Champions League final for the first time thanks to a 2-0 win over PSG at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday; apart from the first 30 minutes of the first leg, when PSG looked very dangerous, City were good value for their 4-1 aggregate victory. Once again, PSG totally lost their cool when faced with a Champions League loss: Angel Di Maria was sent off in the 69th minute for a stamp on Fernandinho on the sidelines. Several of Di Maria’s team-mates also saw yellow for petulant fouls. In the final 15 minutes, City’s players switched to damage limita ..read more

Champions League highlights: PSG 1-2 Man City – Pep shows his quality

I bet on PSG to win this match, as I thought they looked good in their quarter-final against Bayern, if a little fortunate at times, and City had just played in a cup final three days ago. At half-time, I was feeling pretty smug, as PSG were leading 1-0 on the back of a dominant 45 minutes. City looked off the pace, fatigued even – was Pep going to f-up another Champions League knockout match? Not this time. Pep had a chance to show his quality in his half-time team talk, and that he did. City bossed the second half and might have won by more – I’d love to know what he said to his players in ..read more

League Cup Final highlights 2021: Man City 1-0 Tottenham – An inevitable result

How was this going to end any differently? The best club side in Europe, managed by an elite head coach who may well go down as the greatest manager of all time, against Ryan Mason’s Spurs: lads, what did anyone expect but a comfortable City win? As soon as the Tottenham team-sheet was made public, it was clear that they had almost no chance. You can’t play Harry Winks in midfield for 90 minutes at Wembley and expect a miracle. Don’t be fooled by the tight scoreline – this was an embarrassingly one-sided match, summed up perfectly for me when Pierre-Emile Hjobjerg – a useful but very limited ..read more

Rodri celebrates goal Both teams finished a man light at Villa Park, but Manchester City’s ten men were clearly better than Villa’s ten men. Rodri’s first-half header won the match, after Phil Foden – man of the match once again – had cancelled out John McGinn’s first-minute opener. Villa briefly had a man advantage after John Stones was sent off on the stroke of half-time for a reckless tackle on Jacob Ramsey, only for Matty Cash to receive two yellow cards in quick succession (both for fouls on the quicksilver Foden) soon after the restart. 29 – No player has scored more goals in all comp ..read more

Arsenal: As a result of listening to you and the wider football community over recent days we are withdrawing from the proposed Super League. We made a mistake, and we apologise for it. — Arsenal (@Arsenal) April 20, 2021 Sincerity rating: At least they said sorry. It’s not much but it’s something. Spurs: We can confirm that we have formally commenced procedures to withdraw from the group developing proposals for a European Super League (ESL).#THFC #COYS — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) April 20, 2021 Sincerity rating: Meh. The Great ESL Collapse: Chelsea and Man City pull out of European Super League with more to follow

The dirty half-dozen It happened too late for them to come across as the good guys, but Chelsea and Man City have at least come to their senses and decided to withdraw from the absurd European Super League. There are also rumours that Atletico Madrid are about to pull out. I’m pretty sure that the other four Premier League clubs will soon follow suit. They’ve been left with no alternative. Vampires in Spain and Italy, such as Real’s vile creep Florentino Perez (of course he was vain enough to want to be the first president of this abomination), appeared to be driving the ESL anyway, and rope ..read more
