TALLMADGE, Ohio (WJW) - Multiple people were arrested on trafficking and prostitution-related charges as part of an ongoing investigation into an illegal massage parlor in Tallmadge, according to police.
Tallmadge police detectives led the multi-jurisdictional investigation at the Rainbow Spa in the 200 block of West Avenue, the police department said in a media release.

TALLMADGE, Ohio (WJW) – Hundreds of alpacas will be in Northeast Ohio this weekend, and you can see them for free!
The annual Buckeye Alpaca Show will take place on March 23 and 24 at the Arena Complex at the Summit County Fairgrounds in Tallmadge, according to a press release from the Buckeye Alpaca Show.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) - A local library system is no longer charging overdue fines, but that doesn't mean customers can sneak by without returning the materials they borrow without a charge.
The new 'fine free' policy is now in effect at the Akron-Summit County Public Library. The library has also removed all outstanding overdue fines from customers’ accounts.

TALLMADGE, Ohio (WJW) - A late-night crash involving a semi-truck on I-76 temporarily closed the westbound lanes of the interstate near Southeast Avenue in Tallmadge.
Monday night, shortly before midnight, the semi-truck and two cars were involved in the accident.
Excavators make prehistoric discovery in Lorain Co.
The truck ended up off the roadway and into a wooded area.

(WJW) - A longtime Northeast Ohio businessman has died.
Robert "Rob" Grendow, 60, of Amherst, was the owner of Danny Boys Pizza -- a popular Italian restaurant with six local locations.
Local JOANN Fabric store closing
According to his obituary, Grendow and his wife bought the original Danny Boys in Rocky River in 1991. The couple spent more than 30 years in the restaurant business, before retiring in 2022 and selling the business to their son and long-time business partners.

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – A man was taken to the hospital and arrested after a standoff with police and a Tallmadge officer-involved shooting in Lawrence Township late Thursday night.
According to police sources, Tallmadge Police Officers responded to the 1100 block of Woods Drive in Tallmadge after it was reported that a man with outstanding arson warrants was there.
The man fled the scene and led officers in a chase that ended in Lawrence Township.

TALLMADGE, Ohio (WJW) - A roadway in Tallmadge was closed for about two hours on Thursday when several bales of hay caught on fire.
Fire crews say a flatbed truck was carrying a large load of hay along E. Howe Road, near North Avenue, when cars passing by alerted him the bales were on fire. According to officials, the driver attempted to put out the fire using a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful.

TALLMADGE, Ohio (WJW) - A devastated mother is speaking out about the dangers of button
batteries after the death of her two-year-old daughter.
For Sumiah Hamdan, of Tallmadge, the pain is never-ending.
"It's like your heart has been pulled out of your chest every single day," said Hamdan.

TALLMADGE, Ohio (WJW) – About 50 years after the crimes were committed, a 78-year-old man will be sentenced on Tuesday in two cold case murders that took place in Tallmadge in the 1970s.
Just last month, Gustave “Gus” Sapharas, 78, was found guilty of the two brutal murders.
According to the Tallmadge Police Department Facebook page, the conviction of Sapharas was "one of the proudest moments in TPD history and most likely the greatest individual achievement as well.”
