Shop Talk: Tour Our New Headquarters!

I still pinch myself daily that our new headquarters is no longer ground zero for my dusty flea market finds. Instead, it’s now a beautiful, organized hub for our team, dreams and corporate to do lists. It’s been such a long road to this point, and I wanted to share some of the story and images here with you. I think so often people watch social media and think things look easy, fast or simple. But I’m here to say this building is a testament of a ton of blood, sweat, tears, patience, nimbleness and creativity.     Only a few months ago, this building was a storage unit for my craz ..read more

Happy New Year! I hope everyone’s holidays were filled with fun, cheer and your favorite things and people! Our holiday season was jam-packed with supporting our store’s busiest time, plus putting all the parts in place to pull together our new headquarters to start 2022 with a fresh slate and space.     The two-day install went fairly smooth, and was a fun team-bonding experience banding together to clean, scrub, wallpaper, vinyl, move, plant and hang all the bits and parts it takes to make a project organized, operational and beautiful. As a former interior designer, it’s most ..read more

The day is finally here: Our future HQ gets a commercial clean and the city tags us with our Certificate of Occupancy! Tomorrow our installers arrive for a two-day move that will transform the space into the dream corporate headquarters I’ve patiently waited for, for years. Yesterday was nuts. I spent nearly the entire day tying up loose ends, organizing schedules, ordering supplies and running around town for final fixtures. The day started with orchestrating a run-of-show (hello, pickup locations, timelines, storage unit gate codes) for our team and movers so the install is as smooth and ef ..read more

The time is here: Install is in four days! As you can imagine, that means it’s all hands on deck to get our HQ ready for our certificate of occupancy and move in day with our installation crew. The project was in super-speed mode this week to meet our deadline. Painters were on site prepping, priming and painting the walls, cabinets and doors. The kitchen backsplash and mop sink tile were completed yesterday. Our quartz kitchen countertops were installed and look stunning with a dazzling dark gray veining throughout.     One of my favorite parts of a project is when lights get wir ..read more

The finish line is in sight, and we’re crazy-excited to get inside our beautiful new headquarters! Last week, our original concrete floors were sanded, polished and coated with a matte sealer. With all of our spaces, I’ve chosen to keep the raw floors to showcase their history and tales from the past. I don’t know the entire history about this building, but the last tenant was a soup kitchen for the homeless. In addition to the original floors, I also preserved some of the vintage painted sections in our distribution area to honor years past in this cool space.     On Wednesday, o ..read more

Shop Talk: Bring The Heat!

From pretty vintage rugs to a fancy heating and air conditioning system, lots of updates rolled into the new headquarters over the past two weeks. Last Monday, a scissor lift landed on site to hoist up our huge HVAC system into the ceiling rafters. Electrical work continues and final pieces were put in place before sheetrock went in.     I selected countertop slabs (hello, creamy marble) and all paint finishes. For every project, I create a paint schedule that details every color and finish from the baseboards to ceiling. I went with classic hues that are in our various projects f ..read more

In less than five weeks – if all goes as planned – we’ll be moving into our HQ! Last week, lots happened, although not the fun stuff. Electrical was completed. I selected light switch locations. I made some final change orders including adding some additional doors and removing some accent tile walls that were pushing the budget. I selected our kitchen countertops (hello, carrara marble) and ordered all cabinet hardware.     Some fun selections also arrived at our door from our decorative rope pendant lights to vintage rugs that will decorate our conference room, hallway and my mu ..read more

Shop Talk: Dirt, Concrete + Inspections Time

We’re two weeks into our HQ remodel. Although this stage is far from sexy, it’s the important stuff: Laying electrical and plumbing lines. Removing old tile and grout. Pouring concrete back in excavated ditches for things like floor plugs. Every day, I’m also working with our contractors through change orders — moving an electrical panel to save $5,000! — Covid issues (delivery delays, etc.) and design approvals. It’s the mucky part of a remodel, but the part that matters most. The good news? Tomorrow the real fun begins!     Now that we have our inspection green tags and the conc ..read more

The day is finally here! I’m so excited to say that we’re officially breaking ground on our company headquarters! The space will be next to our Deep Ellum Flea Style store and house the corporate offices and distribution center for Style Concepts, the parent company to Flea Style, Heirloom Haul, Game Day Style and Wide Brim. I’ve waited for the day since 2017 when we bought the historic downtown Dallas property that includes two buildings and a parking lot. For the longest time, I always thought the 1,750 square foot space would be Heirloom Haul. I held off renovating the space for so many re ..read more

Bungalow Lowdown: Demo Day + All The Dust
Flea Style

The bungalow is officially covered in a few inches of dust, and we’re not mad about it! Last week, our four-week remodel officially kicked off and our amazing crew has been working around the clock to meet my tight deadline. Our team started with demolition of the kitchen floors, sunroom floors and some built-in cabinets. The main living area had several floor elevations and it was funky and also a little dangerous. So I decided to even them out which meant removing lots of tile. Of course, demo never goes as planned and sadly the original wood floors under the kitchen tile were not salvageab ..read more
