Ok, I am highlighting in advance that this blog may make some of you uncomfortable.  I am going to talk about a topic that some may perceive as ‘taboo’ or something that quite frankly isn’t spoken about quite openly… Periods.  More specifically, the management of, using reusable period underwear. I’m sure many of you have come across one of my declarations of love on using period underwear to manage my monthly visits.  I’ve been using Modbodi for over 6 years now, and let me tell you, they have been a game changer. Recently I did an Insta-story asking for any questions people ma ..read more

How to connect with your teen daughter.

Who remembers how hard it was being a teenager?  Urgh, I did.  Such an awkward period, dealing with changing bodies, hormones, friendships, relationships… And now, having my own tween daughter myself, what a trip!  Life has done a 180! As a parent, all you want is for your child to thrive.  Science tells us that the greatest predictor for your daughter’s wellbeing is her connection with you. Let’s face it, it is often hard to know what is really happening with your teenage daughter.  And whilst we’d love to read their minds, or think or know how they feel, it’s almost ..read more

This is one stat that we need to change…

70% of Aussie kids cite that body image is their #1 concern.  70%.  Let that sink in. It is my mission to change this, and whilst I’m confident that the release of the Embrace Kids documentary next year will have a notable impact on this issue, I’m still pressing ahead with another passion project of mine – school talks. In real life, or virtually. In Australia and across the world! There is nothing like connecting with students in such a way that positively impacts the way they see their body, and for them to realise that their body is not an ornament, but a vehicle to their dreams ..read more

Here’s to making the switch to period undies and never looking back.

I made the switch to reusable period underwear about 6 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. My preconception of period underwear was a bit – ewww and questions, oh I had lots of questions – how would it feel (wet?) how would it look (bulky?) how would I wash them (gross?)…   I’m pleased to say that Modibodi underwear keeps you dry, they are super comfortable and not bulky (they also cover your butt – hooray!) and they are so easy to clean (simply rinse out in cold water and bung them in the wash!).  What’s even better, is that by choosing to ditch the disposables I ..read more

Yay! Last month I announced that I’ve officially became an Ambassador for one of my favourite food brands – San Remo! It’s a no-brainer, pasta and I have been besties for years!  San Remo, like Body Image Movement, are committed to creating positive change and are getting behind the Embrace Kids message.  As you know, we want to inspire the next generation to move, nourish, respect and most importantly ENJOY their bodies.  No child was born hating their bodies (or scared to consume carbs) and yet 70% of Aussie school children consider body image to be their #1 concern. It’s m ..read more

28,000 days on the planet… that’s how many we’ve got – if we’re lucky! And if it doesn’t sound like a lot of time, that’s because it’s not! I don’t know about you, but it only feels like last night I was dancing at the nightclub, 20 years young and not a care in the world and then I blinked and BAM – 42, 3 kids, mortgage, bills, life…. Gah – responsibilities! I sometimes even find myself on sunny days, looking at the blue skies contemplating what a great day it is to get the washing on the line – who even am I? Do you relate? Yes, time moves fast and we mustn’t waste a minute, life is precious ..read more

Spotlight on Shelley Laslett

I met Shelley Laslett at the Nurture Her conference in Fiji in 2018 and we immediately hit it off. Both speakers at the event, I remember meeting her on the first night and vibing with her immediately. Meeting fellow speakers at big conferences is always a mixed bag, some people see you as competition and others are delighted to meet you. Shelley and I were (of course) the latter and soon I discovered that the Nurture Her event organisers had curated only the types of people that support, encourage and lift each other up. (Side note, put the Nurture Her conference on your to-do list, the best ..read more

I don’t know about you, but when the rona goes away I’m going to be touching, kissing, hugging, loving and high-fiving everyone that I come into contact with! I desperately miss human contact, and although I’m shacked up with the kids and Chico (the schnauzer) and can get some daily lovin’, I do miss life before the pandemic. I miss hugging my friends, drinking cups of tea with my parents in their kitchen and sitting closely on the round table with my work colleagues workshopping ideas. The overwhelming feedback I’ve heard from friends and colleagues recently is “I feel lost” and “I feel lonel ..read more

Spotlight on Danielle LaPorte

I met Danielle LaPorte a few years ago in Vancouver when she attended a Q&A screening of Embrace the documentary. I have to say, when you’ve followed and admired someone’s work for a number of years and they come to see your work it’s incredibly exciting and a bit nerve wracking. I remember pacing around the theatre thinking “Will she like the film?” “Will she like me?” I’m not one to usually care about what other people think, but when they’re one of your heroes – you care! If you don’t know who Danielle is, you are in for a treat! Her words will speak directly to your soul, I know they d ..read more

I get it. I feel it too. This is weird – right? We are travelling through a time of the unknown and it’s got us a bit rattled, rightly so. Planet Earth on the other hand is thriving, she is getting a break from us, fish are swimming in crystal clear water in Venice, the swans have returned to the canals and satellite photos show that pollution is dissipating over a number of countries – now that’s a before and after photo I’m all for! The Coronavirus seems to be working for Mother Nature, not so much for us – or is it? It’s hard to not get caught up in the hysteria of it all but I think we all ..read more
