Miramonte lacrosse player Sydney Gray is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week for March 25-30. In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Gray finished with 40.49% of the votes. San Mateo softball player Nia Mapa was second at 30.58%. Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition. Gray scored six goals and had two assists in an 18-16 victory over Berkeley. I found the article on CalFresh disturbing. I was under the impression that programs like CalFresh were established to help those in real need: seniors on limited fixed incomes; people who, for reasons beyond their control, are in need of temporary assistance; people without family or other resources. MARTINEZ — Prosecutors here have charged a Vallejo man with robbing a local resident during a purported car sale, in a case where the suspect was identified because he allegedly told the victim about his aspiring rap career. The 28-year-old Vallejo resident was charged on Feb. 20 with robbery and having a prior strike conviction. He pleaded not guilty on March 4, and is in court this week for a preliminary hearing before Contra Costa Judge John Kennedy, who will rule whether the prosecution has enough evidence to keep the case going, court records show.
