WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – Bond was set for the West Point couple accused of killing their child. 24-year-old Donovan Jeffers and 25-year-old Quiyona Pederson were both given a $300,000 bond. They remain in the Clay County jail after being charged with murder. The couple was extradited from West Virginia. Police Chief Avery Cook said the investigation started in November 2022. That’s when hospital staff called officers and Child Protective Services about the possible abuse when the baby arrived in the emergency room. Fallen trees, limbs lay across MUW campus after storm

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi University for Women employees are also cleaning up after Thursday’s high winds. A number of trees and large limbs were taken down along the front of campus. Several of those limbs fell on the iron fence where the front of MUW faces College Street. At least one window was blown out. Some utility poles were also knocked down near faculty housing on the back of campus. A school spokesman said no damage to buildings or injuries have been reported. 4-County crews work to restore power in Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – 4-County Electric Power Association crews worked through the night to restore power. This is a video from Frontage Road in Lowndes County. The electric co-op said seven poles were broken in the area. It took at least a dozen workers to make the repairs. Power was restored at about midnight for the area. COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Fire and Rescue had its hands full Thursday evening with no fewer than 5 fires coming close behind the storm. And the weather is being looked at as a possible cause. OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Christopher Perkins was charged with one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault. A nine-year-old was shot in a vehicle in January of 2022. Barron Hubbard, Tabyron Fisher, and Dellveon Lindsey were also arrested. They are each charged with six counts of aggravated assault and one count of murder in the first degree.
