I have always thought this baritone under-appreciated, even Klein doesn't say much about his recordings. Can someone comment on this great artist ..read more

Miklos Rozsa

Miklos Rozsa already had a promising career as a composer in the concert hall when he started writing movie scores in the mid-1930s. By the end of that decade, he was working on the most expensive movie being made in England, and by the end of the decade that followed, he was under contract to the biggest studio in Hollywood. Born into a well-to-do family in Budapest, Rozsa's musical sensibilities were shaped by his contact with the Magyar peasants who lived around his father's summer... Miklos Rozsa ..read more

Lest you think I have lost my marbles, all I have to say is Eva Marton amazed me at being able to really sing Mozart quite beautifully. This is very different from her Elektra or Turandot. Clair Watson was the reigning Mozart queen in Munich for ages. I think I have some spectacular singers for you in this contest. Don Giovanni K527, Atto Secondo, Scena quarta, Recitativo & Aria: Non mi dir, bell'idol mio (Donna Anna) · Claire Watson/New Philharmonia... Round One: Mozart-Non mi dir. Don Giovanni. If you could only have recordings made by one conductor, who would it be?

Think tactically. For me it’s a mix between how much I like a conductor’s interpretations, how many recordings the conductor has made, how good the sound quality is across the table and which composers I like the most that the conductor made recordings of. I was contemplating between Bernstein, Szell and Karajan but ultimately I would have to go for Karajan. I’d be able to cover a wide array of repertoire that I’m interested in. For example: Excellent: Sibelius (incomplete) cycle... If you could only have recordings made by one conductor, who would it be ..read more

I seek feedback regarding my music. This seems to be the place to come, where people who truly love and understand music hang out. No one I know shows any sign of 'getting' my stuff, and I often think the fault lies in the pieces themselves. Perhaps it does, and perhaps you will tell me so. I.appreciate any response at all... Inspired by the second movement from Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra (which seems to have a new, much less attractive official name "Presentando le coppie" now...), here's a game of musical pairs, that is, pairs of works in the same genre by the same composer. We collected 240 pairs of compositions in the nominations thread. There will be 12 qualifying rounds with 20 pairs each. For each round, the 5 works with the highest scores will advance to...
