Interesting clip for music students and keen listeners to understand how FIFTH note is activated though not directly played/stimulated, legends and gurus already know this fact.
Use HEADPHONES to identify more clearly - e.g. when ni of lower octave is played ma of middle octave is activated, when dha of lower octave is played ga of middle octave is initiated and so on.
This is in accordance with the simple law of physics - law of HARMONICS, as well as superposition of two frequencies producing third note.
This is more clear due to OPEN JIWARI and reasonably good TUNING.

Hi everyone,
I've been a long time fan of this site but this is my first time posting.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the song Aaj Rapat Jaye from the film Namak Halaal (1982) is based on any specific raag? Or like many other film songs, is it a mixture of more than one raag? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

The rubber dot on my tabla is starting to crumble.
Remo used to sell Rubber Dots, but I cant find any for sale anymore.
Are there any sellers here that sell rubber dots for tablas. My rubber dot is 3" , but if someone have the Remo Dots for sale which is 2.75" it will be fine too.
I dont want to change the hide as it is really great sounding. The full replacements heads I purchased in the past sounds uninspiring, and I really like the old original hide on mine. Nothing beats it, so I want to keep it on. Therefore I just want to replace the dot. I dont know what the Dot is called in india ..read more

Hi all,
I'm very (very, very, very) reluctantly having to part with my Murari Mohan Adhikari surbahar. It is listed on Reverb:

Hi all,
I have a Hiren Roy student sitar, which does not have tarab strings, for sale.
I have the tuning pegs. I just took them off to clean it. Also the bridge had a cracked leg, so you'll need to get one.
I have it on ebay and reverb right now, but I'll sell it to anyone here for $500. I don't have a case for it, so unless you want to pay for that and shipping, local pick up.
My email is Foxinsox60@gmail.com

"Songs that bring you together into certain times and emotions"
Hello, nice to meet you. An Indian music lover I know described Raga in this sentence. Is there any other way? How would you define Raga in one sentence?

Hi all.
I've found and old flac archive dated 2010 recorded by Manilal Nag , the guruji of my guruji Raju Chakraborty whom I met years later (may be my grand-guruji), Casuality or coincidence?.
I've restored the archive (it was broken), and restore the sound apply some digital mastering techniques
I hope you enjoy it.
Om.

Hello. Nice to meet you. I was looking into Gandhar Pancham style sitar and I have a question, so I would like to ask your opinions. I heard that if I adjust this instrument to C#=Sa, it is as follows.
First string - F#
Second string - C#
Third string - F#
Fourth string - G#
Fifth string - C#
Sixth string - C#
But what I'm curious about is this. As far as I know, the name Gandhar Pancham comes from the 3rd and 4th strings, so shouldn't the 3rd strings be E#, not F#?
Sa = C#
Re = D#
Ga = E#
Ma = F#
Pa = G#
Dha = A#
Ni = B#
I would appreciate it if you could let me k ..read more

Hello Everyone
Apologies as I am asking a question which has been asked quite a few times already, however, the latest I found in the forums were from 2010, unless mistaken.
I'm planning to fly from Kolkata (Calcutta) to London (via New Delhi - layover) this July with a new Sitar (Mohan Lal Sharma - KP). I am quite anxious about the whole 'flying with Sitar' routine as this will be my first time air travel with a sitar. I have three questions really:
1) Carrying vs Shipping: Is it worth the risk of bringing it along with me as Check-in luggage? Or should I just ship it, wh ..read more
