Vegan Guide to Ipoh
Published June 2024
Here is our Vegan Guide to Ipoh, a town in the north west of peninsula Malaysia that is considered to be the gateway to Cameron Highlands. Our previous fleeting visits, had certainly been en route to the Cameron Highlands, but this time we stayed a little longer allowing us to research and publish our latest vegan guide. Now, first up is to warn you that during Chinese New Year (which is when we visited) many restaurants are closed as Chinese families spend time celebrating with relatives around the country. This did make findng vegan food a little ha ..read more

Cambodia Vegan Tour
Well, it’s actually happened, and oh boy was it lots of fun, the first ever 14 day Cambodia Vegan Tour. During covid we were approached by the award winning team behind Vegan Travel Asia who asked would we be interested in curating a Cambodia Vegan Tour for them. Having lived in Cambodia for more than 8 years, during which time we’ve explored the country, finding, eating and writing about the best vegan food, it was an offer we could not refuse. So from early 2021 this project has kept us busy, developing existing connections, making new connections and bringing them all to ..read more

Vegan Guide to Mexico
Published January
(our Vegan Guide to Mexico is a guest post from Anesa Kratovac)
Mexican cuisine is known to be some of the most savoury and delicious in the world! But, when most people think of the country’s main dishes, they picture tacos with beef and enchiladas smothered in milky cheese. Fortunately for vegans, the vegan Mexican food scene has developed tremendously over the last decade and major cities, cultural hubs, and touristy places like Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende offer healthier and plant-based versions of traditional Mexican favourites. Even more vegan food in Siem Reap
Despite the closure of all of the vegan restaurants in Siem Reap due to the economic impact of covid, we are still blessed with multiple vegan and plant based options in Temple Town. From luxury hotels with vegan breakfast such as Jaya House River Park and Treeline Urban Resort (who also currently have amazing plant based options on their menu at Canopy), to accidentally vegan Cambodian street food if you know where to look, we are spoiled for choice.
We were of course excited with the recent opening of a brand new 100% vegan restaurant, and also feel lucky to ..read more

Exciting times to be vegan in Siem Reap
After a couple of years of lockdowns, closures and covid related problems it really feels that Siem Reap has turned a corner and life is returning to the (new) normal times that we have all missed. The removal of all covid based restrictions for vaccinated travellers, the re-opening of hotels and restaurants and the incredible new look roads and riverside have made us happy, whilst seeing tourists wandering the (beautiful new) streets has made us very happy.
In addition to the overall feelings of positivity, we have to say that these are also exciting ti ..read more

Vegan food in Bassac Lane, Phnom Penh
Things change quickly in Cambodia. In December 2021 we were asked to publish a guest post that highlighted the vegan options in and around Bassac Lane, Phnom Penh’s very own bustling pub street ares, host to locals, travellers, expats, and tourists, with its mixture of bars, restaurants and cafes. As young Cambodians become more aware of the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle, it’s exciting to see them enjoy the many vegan friendly eateries available in this Phnom Penh neighbourhood.
Sadly, in the time it has taken to gather the words, images and prepare ..read more

Sihanoukville Vegan Staycation
The one bit of advice we always give to our friends, family and followers when they are making a dinner reservation or booking a hotel stay is to communicate with their chosen restaurant or hotel pre arrival. Contact them and ask to speak to someone from the restaurant, that might me the restaurant manager or supervisor but could even be the F&B director or executive chef. This way, you can be sure that your diet is fully understood and you have some sort of agreement of what can be expected during your stay or on offer from the menu.
Sometimes however, this ..read more

Above and Beyond with Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh
We were very excited to find out that Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh had included a selection of dishes featuring the ground breaking and innovative Beyond Meat on their menus. We were even more excited when we had the chance to taste some of these plant based creations during our recent staycation which you can read about here. It was great to stay somewhere that had vegan, veggie and plant based options throughout the hotel and we will be definitely returning to Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh next time we visit Phnom Penh.

Where can i enjoy vegan food in Siem Reap?
Siem Reap has been our home since 2015 and during that time we have enjoyed a rapid growth in the vegan options available. We’ve done everything we can during this time to support this growth and advocate for veganism. Being Happy Cow ambassadors, sharing recipes with our friends, offering menu consultancy and staff training, publishing vegan friendly luxury hotel reviews, writing travel guides and even gently encouraging Angkor Market to stock vegan products (OMG haven’t they done well!) have all contributed to Siem Reap being a very vegan friendly l ..read more
