MAMARONECK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — It’s the kind of flood the village of Mamaroneck has been hoping for — a flood of money. Almost $90 million is finally in the federal budget to pay for flood mitigation projects. Mayor Tom Murphy calls the confluence of the Mamaroneck River and the Sheldrake River “ground zero” for frequent Mamaroneck flooding, like the mess that devastated the village last September when 1,000 residents had to be rescued and 500 cars were trashed. In a familiar routine, elected officials visited and promised help by pushing for funding to prevent future flooding. The funding ha ..read more

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The market for single-family homes in the nearby northern suburbs is “blistering,” according to one real estate expert. Low inventory plus high demand equals a difficult time for homebuyers, unless they have very deep pockets, CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported Friday. “For Sale” signs are few and far between in Westchester County. Just about 700 single-family homes were listed in the 4th quarter of 2021. That’s down 45% from 2020. Expert Jonathan Miller crunched some numbers for Douglas Elliman Real Estate. “What I see is the fastest moving housing market in about four decade ..read more

Shopping for one this year, you’ll find the prices range from humble, to high end. CBS2’s Tony Aiello decided to put a $60 panettone to the test — a taste test. At Cosmo Deli in Mamaroneck, the approach of Christmas brings stacks of panettone, an Italian bread that helps make a “Buon Natale.” “They’re moving. We sold a ton of them and they’re still going,” owner Pat Colalillo said. While the sweet loaves with candied fruit typically sell for $7 ..read more

MAMARONECK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Tuesday’s storm dumped more than three inches of rain on White Plains. The rain petty much stopped in the mid afternoon, which was a relief after a messy morning caused problems on the parkways and forced the cancellation of in-person classes at Westchester Community College, CBS2’s Tony Aiello reported. Torrents of rainwater followed the path of least resistance to storm drains that couldn’t quite keep up with the downpour. Flooding closed the Bronx River Parkway, from the Cross County in Yonkers all the way up to the County Center in White Plains. More floodin ..read more

It’s a lot of money,” School Of Rock’s Vanessa Ridder said of her ..read more
