It’s me, hi!! I just finished my exams for the Fall term of my second year of university. I’m pretty happy to be done as now it means I can hang out at home and watch Gossip Girl without feeling like I should be studying! I also do realize I haven’t made an update since March, which was a long time ago. TLDR: first year went swimmingly! New update: second year thus far has been absolutely excellent! In terms of courses I am in a foundations of education course, service-learning (placement in school, more to come), child development, multivariate calculus, and modern physics! The last three I j ..read more

It’s me, hi, So here I am several months after I last published anything. Things have been bananas but full of joy in my corner of the world. I haven’t talked about this in a while and I think I’m well overdue for it. Let’s go back to mindset. But from an undergrad perspective now. Circumstances have changed. They’ve come to 22 hours of classes in a week, long labs, weekly quizzes and every other week being insane. That’s where I’m at. It’s really hard not to get bogged down when everything catches up to me and it’s not exactly something I talk about too much with my friends. So I thought I’d ..read more

Say you’ll remember dancing in September Hi there Do I ever have new adventures in math to share! I’m just over a month into university and love it. Things are really good around here. I’m living in residence and the people I live around are so kind and funny, but I do have to say that the people I’ve met through class and orientation are the ones that have the most new memories attached to them. The physics department here is small. Like, very small compared to other universities. I chose it because of its size and it’s proven to be a good decision on my part. There are 8 of us as majors in ..read more

Hi there, how’s it going? After a 10 month hiatus from this blog I finally decided I should probably write again. I guess you could say I was in my reputation era (Swifties rise up) when it comes to my life in math, but otherwise, I’ve really been enjoying life these past 10 months. Things have been good. I realize now I may have left my last blog post on kind of a cliffhanger… so, calculus worked out after all. We didn’t get our teacher back, but we did get a new one, and the rollercoaster of a semester ended off alright. I’m excited to start a new applied calculus course at university (I’m a ..read more

“Guys, we should make a documentary out of this shared experience” Period 3 calculus crew Hi there!!! Sorry for going MIA for about two months. I’ve been busyyyyy! School’s been back in session, I’m in grade twelve… it’s my last year! This semester, I have English, a spare, calculus, and chemistry. I’ve had 3 weeks of calculus now – the weeks alternate because of our school schedule right now. I just wanted to talk a little about my experience so far because, let me tell you, a good chunk of it has been rather unexpected. The course itself is MCV4U – Calculus and Vectors. So part of the cours ..read more

Hi there! This post has been long overdue for a bit now. During the last two weeks of July, I attended the Perimeter Institute’s summer program for high school students, the International Summer School for Young Physicists or, more easily put, ISSYP. I haven’t gotten to writing this post until now because a lot has been going on in my life and I have been working full-time. But now I’m here!!! So I wanted to share a little about my experience in ISSYP, the highlights, the people, etc. Format Due to the pandemic, this year ISSYP took place entirely online. Normally, we would go to Perimeter in ..read more

I am so grateful it was not named… you know the name Alright, here it is!! This past week, Monday through Friday, from 10AM-12PM every day, our summer learning for students course finally launched!!! I put a whole lot of work into this course and it was so amazing to have it come to life. However, I’m kind of sad that yesterday was the last day! The week went by soooo fast! But I guess that says a lot about it, right? Time does fly when you’re having fun. The course was called Unlocking Your Inner Mathematician and consisted of 13 sections, each with a classroom teacher and two student leaders ..read more

Today’s June 20th, and you know what that means? It’s my blog’s 2nd birthday! Ahhh!! I don’t have much to say other than thank you to everyone who’s stopped in here on my blog and supported me on this journey. So instead, I’ve decided to discuss a few of the awesome things that happened this year – and a few of the things that are still to come! (By the way – I really wanted to embed this 20-second video I made to sum up the year, but I’m having technical difficulties, sooo… check it out here.) The success of Math Club I have to admit that I haven’t written much about this school year’s Math C ..read more

You guys!!! So yesterday I was with my lovely grade tens for science and you know what I did? I became a physics teacher!!! And even better? I taught a lesson on refraction of light and Snell’s law! It was seriously the coolest thing. When I was in grade 10, I had first semester science, and when we covered refraction, our class had some problems with the math and mechanics of using Snell’s law. This was because Snell’s law using trigonometry – specifically the sine function. The law itself, in mathematical terms, is n1sinθ1 = n2sinθ2, where n refers to the refractive indices of the first and ..read more

Science with FROGS! Hey y’all! It’s me! I peer tutored my grade ten science class today and we spent the entire day in the lab, working with microscopes, and then we dissected some frogs. It’s certainly not my favourite thing to do in the lab… I made a forbidden slushie (it was just copper (II) sulfate and sodium hydroxide) last week in chem and that is so much more fun to me. But the more important thing to note is that we did a dissection today. You’re probably thinking, Sophie, this has absolutely nothing to do with physics or math, but let me tell you, I made a striking observation today t ..read more
