Is there a difference between Science Fiction and Science Fact? Well in most cases there are, however as technology relentlessly moves forward the line between them becomes increasingly blurred. Take for example the new film Monsters of Man released 8 December 2020 – genre Sci-fi. Not a bad film but definately worth watching as it explores a military robots’ exploration of its own self awareness, learning exponentially, and the consequences. Interestingly Boston Dynamics have created inivative Robots that would of been considered science fiction 10 years ago.  One particular robot ..read more

Wireless In-Flight Drone Recharging Tech For Prime Air

Amazon Prime Air is a drone delivery service that Amazon has been touting for almost four years now. Amazon’s drone delivery service delivered its first package on December 7, 2016. Almost four years later, it’s still a “future delivery system.” What’s missing? Probably something like wireless in-flight drone recharging from the tiny Portland-based Global Energy Transmission, which has demonstrated fast wireless charging for drones that gives delivery, inspection, or surveillance drones essentially unlimited range. Charge time? Just six minutes. “Like with a regular car when you need more g ..read more

Alabama rocket startup Aevum just unveiled the world’s biggest drone — a 28-ton autonomous behemoth that may soon rocket US military satellites into orbit Jay Skylus, the CEO of autonomous launch startup Aevum, stands in front of a Ravn X rocket-launching drone. Aevum Aevum, a quiet, scrappy, and ambitious rocket-launch startup, unveiled the biggest drone in the world on Wednesday. Called Ravn X, the fully autonomous vehicle is 80 feet long, has a wingspan of 60 feet, and stands 18 feet tall. It’s not the largest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) by size — the wings of Northrop Grumman’s MQ-4C Tr ..read more

Full-duration test of Aeon 1 – 3D printed rocket engine. Relativity Space said Monday that the company has successfully completed a full-duration test-firing of its Aeon 1 rocket engine, running it at full power for 187 seconds. The test at NASA’s Stennis Space Center in Mississippi took place with all of the engine’s key components—including turbopumps, injector, and combustion chamber—operating in a flight-like configuration. Surprisingly, the company met this milestone ahead of schedule—Relativity had been targeting completion of this mission duty cycle test before the end of 2020. “Despit ..read more

As the use of drones expands around the world — according to the Federal Aviation Administration, there are currently 1.7 million drones registered in the United States alone — lawmakers have been faced with new and complex regulatory challenges to protect the privacy of ordinary citizens. The increased prevalence of drones has raised the prospect of pervasive surveillance by governments, companies, and individuals, and lawmakers are struggling to keep up with the advancing technology. And while at least 143 countries have enacted some form of drone-related regulation, many experts contend t ..read more

Europeans building Musk’s hyperloop vision – First?

Hyperloop is a 150-year-old European concept rebooted by Elon Musk. And Europeans have a strong chance of being the first to build it. Elon Musk laid out his concept for building ultra-fast “hyperloop” trains running through vacuum tubes back in 2013, but the basic idea has been knocking around Europe for more than 150 years. Inspired by the technological progress of the 19th century that brought about the steam and combustion engines, French novelist Jules Verne imagined a hyperloop-ancestor in 1863 in his “Paris in the 20th century”. Verne pictured a distant future in which compressed air ..read more

Fotokite already offers a clever response to two challenges for deploying drones: limited battery life and the need for a certified pilot. And now it’s tackling a third challenge with its new product: How to deploy a drone as quickly as possible in a first responder situation. Drones can be a tremendous asset to first responders such as fire fighters. They quickly provide an aerial perspective that highlights dangers and opportunities in a crisis situation faster than just eyes on the ground can. Fotokite, a Swiss startup that specializes in first responder drones, has just launched a new pr ..read more

Skydio X2 was built to meet the needs of some of the drone industry’s most forward-thinking fleets. True autonomy and why it matters, and how it will impact drone operations across the industry. Before Covid, I had the joy of travelling the country and globe, showing the promise of Skydio to first responders, utilities, state agencies, inspectors of all kinds of assets, and of course, just plain drone people. In these demos, the most common reaction was for people to drop their jaws over the way Skydios fly, then use words that I can’t put in a blog to tell me exactly what they think. On ..read more
