This is the problem set. I am stuck from this point... If anyone could give me a hand I would really appreciate it. I know this is probably really simple, but I don't know any of this and have been trying my best with youtube, and other peoples posts. PS this is for high school ..read more

Why the need to be careful opening a switch on this RL circuit?

For the period before ##t=0##, during which the switch was closed we have $$-\epsilon_0+IR_1=-L\dot{I}\tag{1}$$ $$\dot{I}+\frac{R_1}{L}I=\frac{\epsilon_0}{L}\tag{2}$$ and the solution to this differential equation is $$I(t)=\frac{\epsilon_0}{R_1}+e^{-\frac{R_1}{L}t}\tag{3}$$... Is the answer 1? Because the cord is connected to vibrating source and it vibrates with a frequency of 100 Hz so section A and B have the same frequency Thanks ..read more

Blowing Into Your Own Sail
Physics Forums

C. There is no net change in force, momentum, or velocity of the sail craft because the fan exerts a forward force on the air; however due to Newton's third law the air exerts an equal and opposite force on the fan. This air then exerts a forward force on the sail which cancels out... Read more ..read more

Waves in space

So I've seen that radar can be used in space which is interesting and brings questions to mind as well as theories. Unrelated Sonar which uses sound waves don't work as sound isn't transmittable through space. Questions: 1) What techniques are used in radar to prevent "wondering" or the radio... Determining the sound level of a leaf blower
Physics Forums

I have a leaf blower that states the sound level is 75dB. My question is, at what distance is this measured. It seems that as you get closer to the source, the dB number will increase drastically. If I double the distance from the source, then the power should go down by a factor of four or 6... Read more ..read more

I am currently a hs freshman enrolled in PLTW's PBS (principles of biomedical science) and I hate it. I hate learning about life and cells and dna and that stuff and I don't wanna do it anymore. My school forces all freshmen and sophomores to do PLTW's PBS and HBS (human body systems) for some... Read more ..read more

Rotation speed for a particular system under gravity.

You have a rope hanging over a fixed support with a heavy weight at one end and a lighter weight at the other end. You set the end of the rope with the lighter weight spinning in a circle and let the heavy weight end fall under gravity. As the heavy end falls the length of the rope that is... Current in circular wire surrounding infinite solenoid in a circuit

Assume the solenoid is very long such that the magnetic field can be approximated as constant inside. If there weren't any ring surrounding the solenoid, then when the switch were closed we would have the following equation from Faraday's law $$\oint \vec{E}\cdot... Read more ..read more
