There aren’t many occasions when a cover can equal or, perhaps, slightly outdo the original, but today’s song comes close to both! Originally recorded by Herbie Mann and featuring as the title track to his 1969 record, Memphis Underground (listen below), this groovy rendition was recorded two years later by a band called The Vampires. Though they underwent various band member changes over the years, they maintained a reputation as being one of the hottest rock bands to emerge from the Pacific Northwest.
