Structure vs Freedom
The Zen Soul

Have you ever met someone who lives life in a way that seems too structured? They don’t break their routine for anything. They have anxiety any time there is a change to their schedule, job, or plan. They prefer a life that is predictable and known. They don’t understand why people can’t keep their word, or don’t respect others’ time, or fail to be intentional with how they live life. Perhaps this describes you? On the opposite end of the spectrum, do you know anyone who seems to be too free? They don’t see why it’s a big deal that they’re regularly late for work, or why people can’t ju ..read more

What if I told you that your life is unfolding exactly as it is supposed to? That every experience you have is designed to create something of incredible beauty. If you’re currently going through something really hard, you may have already stopped reading. If you’re still reading, bear with me for a moment. Picture your favorite hero story. There’s always some part of the story where the soon-to-be-hero undergoes intense struggle. In many stories, the hero’s struggle is heartbreaking. It is the death of a loved one, a crippling injury, or a complete loss of everything they value. During ..read more

In 10th grade, on the last day of school, I wrote in a girl's yearbook that I had a crush on her all year. I was too scared to tell her in person because I couldn't bear the rejection. Later that day, she wrote her phone number in my yearbook and expressed regret that I had not said something sooner and wished we had taken advantage of the time to get to know each other.  That's a lesson around limited thinking that I still sometimes struggle with. In fact, I have sometimes seen this same kind of limited thinking not just around around dating, but also money, physical health and ev ..read more

Thoughts Create Your Life
The Zen Soul

Your world is exactly what you think it is, because the world you create is limited to your beliefs.  Think and Grow Rich is one of the commonly read books among millionaires. The title alone makes a powerful statement. Is it really as easy as thinking?  Yes! It is!  Why do most successful people read books? And I’m not just referring to financial success. What is it about reading books that changes lives? No one pays you to read a book. Reading a book doesn’t suddenly create connection between you and your romantic partner. So what does reading DO to the reader?  Re ..read more

Marry Yourself First

Earlier this year, I participated in a modernized version of an ancient ritual called Heiros Gamos. If you just looked it up, you might get the impression that I was involved in a sexual ritual. That was not a part of this event. The event actually embodied the literal meaning of the greek words Heiros Gamos, which mean “sacred marriage.” Specifically, we were there to make a commitment to our highest self; a commitment to honor and cherish that oldest, wisest version of self. A marriage of sorts. Through the course of a few days, we pondered on what it means to enter into a sacred comm ..read more

To be happy in life, all you need to do is figure out what it is that you want, and then go get it. Sounds simple right? But, for some, the question, “what do you want” is challenging to answer. Sometimes, what we want is conflicting. Today, I may want to be alone. Tomorrow, I may want my ex back. In one moment, I want to be at my top physical condition. In the next moment, the leftover cheesecake in my fridge is the most important thing in my world. When answering this for myself, I broke it down into categories. Specifically, the mind, heart and body. I defined in detail what my ideal ..read more

Have you ever given someone advice, only to find yourself questioning if the exact opposite is true? I remember telling my recently divorced friend that he should not date for a long time. The next day, I told another friend that he should really put himself out there. There’s so many correct answers to how I achieved success in any part of my life. And those answers often seem to conflict. I kept moving forward. I went sat still and deep with my thoughts. I worked hard. I took it easy. I stressed about failure. I trusted that everything would work out. I always persevered. I qu ..read more
