Falcons Report: Seahawks, Saints, Raiders tried to trade into top 10 for Michael Penix

Falcons fans are waking up this morning feeling like they just got run over by a tractor-trailer after a shocking first round of the NFL Draft where Atlanta selected Michael Penix. The Washington prospect was the fourth quarterback selected last night, with six going in the first round, tying the league record from 1983. The hope is that Penix is the next franchise quarterback in Atlanta, and most of the frustration from the fan base has nothing to do with him as a prospect but more with the franchise’s process. Hell, there’s a lot to like about Michael Penix, and other clubs thought so as wel ..read more

Falcons: Michael Penix Jr. not playing for 4-5 years??

The Falcons are once again the butt of the jokes following the first round of the draft after selecting Michael Penix Jr. 8th overall not even two months after signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract. If you ask Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris, though, they are confident in their plan, believing they can compete right now for Super Bowls while also preparing for the future. Kirk Cousins is still the Falcons starting quarterback, and they hope it will stay that way for the duration of his contract. Fontenot on Penix: If he sits for four or five years, that’s a great problem ..read more

Falcons: Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris explain Michael Penix pick

In what may have been the most stunning Falcons draft selection of my lifetime, and that’s saying something, the Falcons decided to take Michael Penix Jr. out of Washington not two months after signing Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180 million contract. Before Cousins had even taken a snap for the team, the Falcons have already drafted his successor with their first round pick, a move that reportedly shocked the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback, who is surely already regretting his decision to come to Atlanta. The Falcons called Kirk Cousins when they were on the clock to let him know. Fr ..read more

The Falcons didn’t make their team better last night. With holes all over the defense, Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris decided to find Kirk Cousins’ successor before he even took a snap in Atlanta. At the earliest, Michael Penix will not see the field in a regular season contest until 2026, barring injury. Though the Falcons didn’t get better for 2024 last night, there are still six other rounds, and the Falcons have three picks tonight — one second-rounder and two thirds. So, who are some of the best players available for Day 2 of the NFL Draft? Adonai Mitchell, Texas AD Mitchell is a freak ..read more

There were literally a dozen prospects other than Michael Penix that I thought the Falcons would draft last night. To say it was a stunner would be an understatement. Removing Penix as a prospect from the equation, Atlanta’s process is at best flawed with no real plan. At worst… I don’t even want to go there. Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris aren’t going to get another crack as a GM and head coach, respectively, if this goes south. They know that. They have conviction in who Penix is, but it’s still a head scratching move for a club that has seemingly made it up as they go along. This offseaso ..read more

Kirk Cousins stunned, frustrated by Falcons’ Michael Penix pick

The Falcons shocked the world tonight when they drafted Michael Penix. After a ton of speculation about whether Atlanta would take a defender or trade back and acquire more picks, Terry Fontenot and Raheem Morris take a quarterback in their first draft together. Three years with Arthur Smith and Fontenot only invested a third-round pick and a couple of veteran free agent deals then in one offseason, he sunk $180 million and the 8th overall pick into the position. It’s quite shocking, and I haven’t even fully digested it yet, but everyone’s asking — Kirk Cousins??? The Falcons signaled to the r ..read more

Falcons shock the world, take Michael Penix Jr. with 8th pick

Coming into the NFL Draft, the Falcons were at the epicenter of rampant speculation. Would they take a fourth consecutive skill position player to make the most out of their shiny new $180 million quarterback Kirk Cousins? Would they finally put an emphasis on their defense and take the best defensive player in the class? Or perhaps they would trade down the board to accumulate more draft capital. They did none of that. Instead, the Falcons shocked the world, staying put and taking Heisman Trophy runner up Michael Penix Jr. out of Washington. With the 8th pick in the 2024 @NFL Draft, the ..read more

The Falcons are hours away now from making their third consecutive selection at the 8th pick. As the mad dash towards Thursday’s first round begins, reports and rumors are flooding in from insiders. There’s really no telling what’s smoke and what’s fire, especially at this point. Teams, agents, and even insiders have their own agendas, so it’s nearly impossible to sift through all of the information… but we sure are going to try. Right now, Vegas sees Dallas Turner and Laiatu Latu as the most likely picks for the Falcons, as far as the betting odds are concerned. Turner and Latu are the co-bet ..read more

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The NFL Draft is here, which means the rumors and reports are flooding in, with several tied to the Falcons. Most recently, it’s been Mel Kiper, who has pegged the Falcons to pick one of two prospects — Dallas Turner or Byron Murphy. Surprisingly, Laiatu Latu wasn’t mentioned, but the UCLA pass rusher and Turner are the co-betting favorites. Albert Breer also reported that the Falcons are one of several teams that have made calls about potentially trading back into the first round for a second selection tonight. Peter Schrager added that Atlanta c ..read more

Multiple NFL insiders believe Falcons could be apart of 10 total first round trades

With about six hours before the NFL Draft, it’s the Wild Wild West on social media. We have NFL insiders continuing to link the Falcons to Michael Penix despite just handing Kirk Cousins $180 million in free agency. Daniel Jeremiah recently said every team is trying to move up to draft an offensive tackle, and most recently, Peter Schrager said he believes there could be as many as 10 trades tonight in the first round, beginning around where the Atlanta Falcons select at pick #8. Said this on @PatMcAfeeShow and I’ll say it again bc doing a “final” Mock Draft becomes difficult. I’m thinking th ..read more
